It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. Sleuths of Crime Branch Unit No. 1 nabbed four youths including a juvenile delinquent for committing more than 15 house-breaking thefts (HBT) in city and district. The accused have been identified as Sagar Hemraj Neware (19), a resident of Rambagh; Arshad Liyakat Ali alias Rajababu (19), a resident of Bhaldarpura; Ankit Prakash Seote (23), a resident of Ruyiganj and a juvenile.
DCP Crime Sambhaji Kadam informed that the gang had committed two HBTs in Hukdeshwar Police Station area, one each in Sakkardara, Imambada and Dhantoli, three in Ramtek, two in Tumsar Police Station area.
The accused were arrested by the police on Thursday and recovered stolen valuables worth Rs one lakh along with a Hero Honda Passion (MH-49/K-7793) and Honda Activa (MH-40/AZ-2292) from their possession. The police suspecting that the accused had brought the vehicle after selling stolen valuables. The arrest was made by API Gorakh Kumbhar, ASI Rajkumar Deshmukh and staff including Sunil Choudhary, Afsar Khan Pathan, Rajendra Shengar, Amit Patre, Rahul Ingole, Nilesh Wadekar, Mangesh Madavi and Ashwin Choudhary.
Externed goon arrested with a firearm
A team of Crime Branch arrested externed goon Chaurdatta Pradip Bulbule (26), a resident of Anand Nagar, Sakkardara, from Futala lake area and seized a firearm from his possession. The accused was externed from city in February 2017 for two years. Bulbule was involved in many petty crime reported in East Nagpur area. Despite of externment order, Bulbule was arrived in Nagpur and was involved in a crime reported at Fusion cafe in West High-Court Road. The arrest was made by staff of Unit No. 2 including API Sachin Lule and staff including Battulal Pande, Ravindra Gawande, Prakash Wankhade, Mahesh Kursange, Sayyad Wahid, Shyam Gorle, Vijay Lekurwale and Ashwin Pillewan.
