Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Truck driver killed in road mishap

A truck driver who was repairing puncture crushed to death by unidentified truck near Oriental Compnay on Ring Road in Nandanvan Police Station area in wee hours of Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kaithwar.  According to police, Kaithwar was transporting goods in truck (MH-40/H-6773) and the truck got punctured near the Oriental company in wee hours. When he was rectifying the puncture, an unidentified vehicle came from another side crushed to death Kaithwar. Sustaining grievous injuries, Kaithwar died on the spot without medical treatment. Wife murders husband, concocted story of accidental death

A woman strangled her husband to death and concocted a story of accidental death. The crime to fore after brother of the deceased approach the police and lodged a complaint against the woman. Finding of autopsy report also claimed ‘strangulation’ as the reason of death.  The deceased has been identified as Nitin Ramesh Nayar (27), a resident of Baitul, Madhya Pradesh while accused is Swati Nitin Nayar (25), a resident of Kerala.  Nitin’s father was admitted at Wockhardt hospital in last week of April and Nitin and Swati were staying at a rented room. Property cell books seven persons including 3 Revenue officials in Nara land grab case

After initiating action against land mafia across the city, the Property Cell is now spreading its dragnet on Government officials who allegedly colluded with land grabbers and abetted commitment of land frauds through preparation and approval of fabricated documents. Daredevil youth caught gang of robbers

A daredevil youth caught a gang of robbers who robbed his girlfriend near Police Talav in Gittikhadan area on Sunday.The accused have been identified as Shubham Dipak Bhageshwar (20), Ashotosh Santosh Menmale (20), Piyush Mahendra Mate (19), all are residents Sugat Nagar while the daredevil youth is -- Ganesh Bhade. According to police, victim Neha Sangole (22), a resident of Jaripatka was riding pillion on motorcycle of Bhade at 10.30 pm. The robbers came behind on motorycle and snatched away Neha’s purse and sped away from the spot. Bhade immediately accelerated his bike and chased the youth on ring road. Aggrieved investors of Maitreya Plotters and Structure Pvt Ltd on Monday met Joint Commissioner of Police (Joint CP) Shivajirao Bodkhe and alleged that the company have duped thousands of investors. Aggrieved land owners are openely coming out against real estate gangland and complaints are pouring at Special Investigation Team (STI). Hubby arrested for murder of wife in MIDC area

In less than two days, the MIDC police cracked the Kartik Nagar murder case and arrested two persons including husband of the deceased. The deceased was identified as Anita Sanatkumar Sen-Tiwari (26) while accused are identified as Sanatkumar Dhnyanchand Sena (22) (husband) and Sashibhushan Munendra Sena (20), all are residents of Mankahari, Mannitola Tehsil, Riva, Madhya Pradesh. Two books for duping Vidarbha Konkan Rural Bank to the tune of Rs 10 lakh

Wadi police booked two three persons for duping Vidarbha Konkan Rural Bank’s Dattawadi branch to the tune of Rs 10 lakh. The accused secured the vehicle loan by submitting forge documents, said police. The accused are identified as Mohd Abdul Javed Ahmed Rasi (30), a resident of Kalamna; Shahid Ahmed Khan and Bhushan Nandakishor Tharade. According to police, the accused got a quotation for Force one vehicle from a showroom and submitted at the bank. Using the details of the showroom, he created fake documents and opened an account with the bank and also created fake account of a showroom. The bank sanctioned the loan and gave the cheque on the name of showroom. The accused deposited the cheque in the fake account of the bank. Woman found murdered in MIDC area

A woman was found murdered on a hill near Kartik Nagar under MIDC Police Station area on Thursday. Identity of the woman is not yet established and cops are searching for the accused.  According to information, the accused slit throat of the woman in their room and threw the body from compound wall. Some residents of area, who were present at public water tap, noticed the men transporting something wrapped in the bed sheet. Suspecting something amiss, they raised an alarm and the accused fled the spot leaving the dead body.  After finding dead body, the residents informed the police.  MIDC Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Kalamna Police arrested two sons of Jivraj Patel

Kalamna Police arrested two sons of Jivraj Patel, President of Maa Umiya Industrial Co-Operative Society, for alleged fraud in grabbing a two-acre plot. The accused have been charged for fabricating documents from a dead person. The cops produced in the court on Friday and obtained four days custody for custodial interrogation.  The arrested accused have been identified as Dinesh Jivraj Halpani Patel and Sanjay Jivraj Halpani Patel. The accused were produced in the court no 3 where police demanded PCR for custodial interrogation. After hearing both sides, the court remanded the accused to four-days custody. What can you do if land mafia occupy your plot ?

1) First step is to file police complaint as any unlawful entry into property in the possession of another with an intent to insult, annoy or intimidate another person is a criminal offence under Section 441 of Indian Penal Code. Land owner remain legally in possession even though he may not physically occupy the plot. 2) For maintainance of your legal rights, a suit should be filed against the persons involved against such trespass.  In such suit, you should also ask for a declaration that the property belongs to your father and not any other person. The reason for this suggestion is that the land mafia then cannot legally transfer the property without your rights being considered. 3) Also, it may be helpful to file a caveat in the court i.e. a document that requires the court to give you a notice in case there is any suit filed in relation to this property so that if any person tries to deal with the land and there is any kind of litigation, you can join in a...

UPI fruad : BoM lossess Rs 25 crore

IN a case of suspected hacking into the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), a payment system for banking transactions that emerged post demonetisation, unidentified person ferreted about Rs. 25 crores through various bank accounts. What is shocking is that the accounts used were zero balance accounts, means there was no condition of maintaining minimum balance. And further astonishing fact about the cases is that it took bank nearly a year, during the audit, to realise the fraud perpetuated on them. Simply put, people should be alert while using electronic mode for money transaction. In State alone nearly 12 FIRs in this connection were registered, including one in city. This crime also indicates the vulnerability of UPI that is being pushed by each of the banks to tide over cash crisis. Two arrested for stealing betel nut worth Rs 20 lakh

Lakadganj Police arrested two persons from stealing a truck laden with ‘Supari’  (betel nut) consignment worth Rs 20 lakh. The accused have been identified as Mohd Shakil Khan Mohd Sharif Khan (48), a resident of Pili Haweli square and Rajendra Anandrao Chambhare (49), a resident of Mahalaxmi Nagar, Kalamna. However, main accused -- Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Haryana -- is still at large. According to police, Mukesh Kumar was frequently engaged by the trader -- Anup Nagariya (44), a resident of Surya Nagar -- for transpiration of betel nut from Nagpur to Delhi hence, he was trustworthy. EoW traces ‘hidden properties’ of Wasankar worth crores

By Dheeraj Fartode  Three years after his arrest, the investigating machinery has finally dug out many hitherto unknown properties of Prashant Wasankar. The cops have detected nine plots worth more than Rs 10 crores. These properties were transferred by Wasankar in the name of “others” days before the police action just to create third party interest and save them from MPID Act.  A senior police officer of EoW informed The Hitavada that they received a tip-off about the anonymous properties and explored the information in last two months.  The investigators recovered transfer papers, power of attorney of the properties from revenue department and from some “other” sources.  The properties are situated in Nagpur district only. Three incidents of robberies reported in city in Ganeshpeth, Pachpaoli and Nandanvan area in which two women and a man lost booty over Rs 1.10 lakh on Friday.  In first incident, three bike-borne youths robbed a man of cash worth Rs 57,000 at at Ganeshpeth area. The police said, Shahrukh Khan Raheman Khan (24), a resident of Arwi town of Wardha District was walking towards his four-wheeler after selling fish at Fish market at 12.30 pm. Three youths came on motorcycle and threatened Shahrukh with sharp-edged weapon. After snatching cash from his pocket, the robbers sped away from the spot. A labour killed in underground mine of manganese Ore India Ltd (MOIL) accident at Kandri. A boulder fell on the labours after a blast in which three laborus sustained grievous injuries and one of them died in a hospital.  The deceased has been identified as Vinod Mehta Yadav while injured labours are Sushil Udke and Sunil Kathaoute.  According to information, the accident occurred at morning hours where first shift started in the mine. The labours were entering in the underground mine and boulders fall on them suddenly. The labours were trapped under the heap of the boulders. Narrow escape to 30 as bus catches fire

A Star bus ferrying almost 30 passengers catches fire near Buttibori owing to short circuit in the wiring system on Sunday. However, all the passengers including driver and conductor, were safely evacuated from the bust before it was enveloped into flames. An officer of Buttibori Police Station informed that the bus (MH-31/CA-576) was going to Buttibori and around 30 passengers were onboard. Conductor Ashish Bahande noticed smoke in the bus and informed driver Jabir Sheikh at 12.40 pm. The driver immediately stopped the bus near Bothali villager and asked passengers get down immediately. The bus caught fire a few minutes later. Staff of Buttibori Police Station was rushed to the spot and three fire-tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. Man murdered for hurling abuses

A man's errant behaviour cost him his life after three persons murdered him. The incident occurred on Sunday in Pachpaoli area during the wee hours. Prima facie police said, the deceased seems to be mentally challenged and used to hurl abuses on anyone passing through the area. Identity of the deceased was not established as yet.  The accused were identified as Tularam alias Lalla Madan Dharmik (21), a resident of Thakkargram, Pachpaoli; Chandrashekhar alias Chandu Ruprao Bhisikar (25), a resident of Tandapeth, Pachpaoli and a juvenile. Power load-shedding in Maharashtra after shortfall 3,500 MW

The state is facing severe power outages due to shortfall of almost 3,500 MW and situation could be worsen in next two days. This major gap of demand and supply has forced Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to resort load-shedding across the state.  According to information, the MSEDCL has seen 20 per cent rise in the demand this year. Current demand of the state is between 18,000 MW to 18,500 MW which is 2,000 MW more as compared to last year.  An official said that Koradi set No. 10 (660 MW), Set No. 2 of Khaparkheda (210 MW), Parali’s set No 8 (250 MW), Adani set No 1 (660 MW), Rattan India’s set No 4 and 5 (270 MW each) are shut down owing to technical reasons.  The MSEDCL have rescheduled the power supply to agricultural feeders and power will be available for agriculture pumps between 1 am to 7 am. Power outages in West Nagpur

In yet another instance, an underground power cable got damaged near Ambazari lake on Friday after which residents of Ravi Nagar, Ram Nagar, Hill Top and nearby areas faced almost one hour power break-down during scorching summer. The culprit this time was contractor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation.  A JCB engaged by the contractor hit the 11 KV power cable disrupting power supply of Gokulpeth feeder. More than 5,000 households of the area were plunged in darkness at around 9.30 pm. It was torturous time for the people during scorching summer. Business Head of SNDL transfers

Essel Utilities have transferred Guatam Seth, Business Head of Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd (SNDL) to Corporate office at New Delhi and appointed Gautam Khurana as the new Business Head of Nagpur Office. Gautam Seth was heading the office since April 2016. Sources informed that the Corporate office of the Essel Group was not happy over the Gautam Seth over issues of recovery of power dues, infrastructure development and increasing power losses and thefts. After analysing performance of Gautam Seth, the company management decided to transfer him and appointed Khurana as the new chief. It may be recalled that Khurana had successfully spearheaded the DF at Nagpur till May 2015 in similar capacity. CP asks DCPs to maintain benchmark of quality policing

City Police’s Zone-V: Crime on decline, attempt to murder and thefts cases are on rise

By Dheeraj Fartode Zone - V of Nagpur Police Commissionerate covers Old Kamptee, New Kamptee, Kalamna, Yashodhara, Jaripatka and Koradi Police Stations. The Zone has recorded decrease in crime by 1.50 per cent and marginal two per cent increase in detection rate was recorded in the Zone. The Zone recorded have recorded increase in attempt to murder, dacoity, thefts, rape DCP Abhinash Kumar, IPS and death by negligence while graph of murder, chain snatching, robbery, burglary, cheating, hurts molestation is decreasing in the Zone. In year 2016, the Zone have recorded 2,163 crime cases as against 2,196 cases in year 2015 and 1,995 in year 2014. Total 1,447 detected by the cops in year 2016 with 69 per cent while detection rate was 67% in year 2015 and 65.56 per cent in year 2014.
