It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A woman was found murdered on a hill near Kartik Nagar under MIDC Police Station area on Thursday. Identity of the woman is not yet established and cops are searching for the accused.
According to information, the accused slit throat of the woman in their room and threw the body from compound wall. Some residents of area, who were present at public water tap, noticed the men transporting something wrapped in the bed sheet. Suspecting something amiss, they raised an alarm and the accused fled the spot leaving the dead body.
After finding dead body, the residents informed the police. MIDC Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Sunil Mahadik, Police Inspector, MIDC Police Station said that the woman is a native of Madhya Pradesh and came to Nagpur probably on Tuesday. She was staying at house of one Roy who works in a company located at MIDC area. After slitting her throat, the accused took the body on the hill and wrapped in bed sheet to destroy evidence. The cops are suspecting involvement of two persons in the murder.
A team of MIDC Police Station is searching for the accused in Madhya Pradesh. The cops have registered the case under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
