With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Lakadganj Police arrested two persons from stealing a truck laden with ‘Supari’ (betel nut) consignment worth Rs 20 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Mohd Shakil Khan Mohd Sharif Khan (48), a resident of Pili Haweli square and Rajendra Anandrao Chambhare (49), a resident of Mahalaxmi Nagar, Kalamna. However, main accused -- Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Haryana -- is still at large.
According to police, Mukesh Kumar was frequently engaged by the trader -- Anup Nagariya (44), a resident of Surya Nagar -- for transpiration of betel nut from Nagpur to Delhi hence, he was trustworthy. On May 2, 2017, Mukesh Kumar arrived with a new truck (HR-38/U-3712) and Nagariya loaded 21,000 tonnes of betel nut in the truck and asked to deliver the consignment at Delhi. In spite of reaching Delhi, the truck driver switched off his mobile phone and went missing.
After registering offence under Sections 406, 420 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. Using mobile surveillance system, the cops have located Mohd Shakil and Rajendra Chambhare and recovered the stolen betel nut from a godown. Police Inspector S. B. Mane, API S. D. Nikam, HC Ajay Rode, Satish Pande, Santosh Gupta and Harish were made the arrest.
