Personnel Branch of Central Railway largesse for self in allotment of peons

By Dheeraj Fartode
Self help is the best help goes the adage and perhaps this may have guided the decision of Personnel Branch at Nagpur Division of Central Railway in allocating themselves a lion's share of peons vis-a-vis other branches. Recently pinpointing of peon cadre was carried out at division and Personnel Branch which carried out the task ensured that it walked away with major share. A peon is now most important person in the down line given the fact that in new hierarchy their numbers are in reducing number owing to automation. Hence for footwork in all branches Peon is now most sought after and hence the allocation formula devised by Personnel Branch has raised eye brows over division.
As per the documents available with The Hitavada, the Personnel Branch peons strength doubled from existing 10. The strength of peons at other department was increased marginally and in number of cases have remained as it is prior to pinpointing. The notification was issued on behalf of DRM (P) on April 10 and the question that has cropped is the formula that formed the basis for allocation majority of Peons' for Personnel Branch in comparison of other departments in division?
As per the notification, peons at disposal of Commercial, Electric Shed, Mechanical, Electrical, S&T, TFC and Engineering were decreased while at Medical Department the current number of eight peons has been maintained. The number of peons with Pivot (attached to DRM) were also increased with more than 30 per cent, and this is the only branch along with Personnel Branch to have benefited from the pinpointing exercise.
As per the notification, peons with Sr. DCM were reduced to five from existing six sanctioned peons while CRS and CBS will continue with existing strength of two and one respectively. Peons at Pivot section were increased to 12 from prevision strength of nine, peons with Sr. DoM were increased to five from three and most importantly office of Sr. DPO will get 21 peons. Earlier, the office of Sr. DPO had 10 peons for assisting the staff with daily work. Number of peons at office of Sr. DME, Sr. DSO, Sr. DMM, Rajbhasha, Dr. DEE (TRO) were maintained as it was prior to pinpointing.
In loco shed, peon of CCCO R AMF were reduced to one. Similarly, peon of C&W AQ were also curtailed to one from existing two. The Electrical department now have only two peons as against six peons earlier with their branch. Only one post of peon was decreased in the S&T department. In Traffic Commercial (TFC) department, four post of peons are reduced which includes three post from SS (Commercial) Nagpur office. The SS office earlier had nine peons earlier and now they will have to deal with six peons for daily work.
Five post of peons are decreased in Engineering Department. Earlier, the department had 16 post of peons and now they will have to manage with 11 peons.
When asked about reason of getting maximum share of peons, Sr. DPO Dr Pulkesh Kumar said that revision was done on basis of current requirement at various department.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. The bridge would be open for traffic in December this year providing a major boost to tourism at Shree Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev temple at Ambhora. It is set to open doors of development for the backward area of Kuhi and Umred tehsil. Ambhora, located 75 km from Nagpur city, is a famous religious and tourist place in Vidarbha. It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
