The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Commissioner of Police Dr. K. Venkatesham on Saturday asked newly joined Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to maintain quality of work and set a new benchmark of policing.
Addressing send-off programme at CP Office, the Police Commissioner thanked the ongoing DCPs for working hard and bringing crime graph under control. Joint Commissioner of Police (Joint CP) Shivajirao Bodkhe, DCP Ranjan Kumar Shrama, Dipali Masirkar, Abhinash Kumar, Ravindrasingh Pardeshi, Sambhaji Kadam along with newly joined S. Chaitany, Nilesh Bharne and others were present on the dais.
“The DCPs have maintained competitiveness and passion and hope that the new officer would follow the same with enthusiasm,” the CP said.
DCP Ranjan Kumar Sharma said that he learnt many aspects of policing while working in the Nagpur and it would help him during career. DCP Maskirkar claimed that it was her dream to work in Nagpur as she belongs to Chandrapur.
Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar compared the programme while DCP Kadam proposed vote of thanks. PI Narendra Hiwre, Hemantkumar Kharabe and Ashok Bagul also praised the officers during their welcome speech.
