It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A daredevil youth caught a gang of robbers who robbed his girlfriend near Police Talav in Gittikhadan area on Sunday.The accused have been identified as Shubham Dipak Bhageshwar (20), Ashotosh Santosh Menmale (20), Piyush Mahendra Mate (19), all are residents Sugat Nagar while the daredevil youth is -- Ganesh Bhade.
According to police, victim Neha Sangole (22), a resident of Jaripatka was riding pillion on motorcycle of Bhade at 10.30 pm. The robbers came behind on motorycle and snatched away Neha’s purse and sped away from the spot. Bhade immediately accelerated his bike and chased the youth on ring road. In a hurry, the robbers failed to control their bike and fell on the road. Bhade immediately bused the robbers and informed police. The Mankapur police have arrested the youths and booked them under Section 392 of IPC.
In another case, Unit No. 1 of Crime Branch arrested a thief and seized stolen valuables worth Rs five lakh from his possession. The accused has been identified as Amol Mahadeorao Raut (30), a resident of Plot No 14, Borkute lay-out, Buttibori. According to police, Raut had stolen cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 4.9 lakh from a house of Vinod Shrilal Dawe (57), at Plot No. 3, Modern Society, near School of Scholars. During investigation, the police recovered an abandoned motorcycle from the spot. As the bike was belongs to Raut, the cops reached to house and arrested him from Satgaon turning. The cops recovered the stolen valuables which had buried in open ground near his house.
