It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A truck driver who was repairing puncture crushed to death by unidentified truck near Oriental Compnay on Ring Road in Nandanvan Police Station area in wee hours of Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kaithwar. According to police, Kaithwar was transporting goods in truck (MH-40/H-6773) and the truck got punctured near the Oriental company in wee hours. When he was rectifying the puncture, an unidentified vehicle came from another side crushed to death Kaithwar. Sustaining grievous injuries, Kaithwar died on the spot without medical treatment. On the basis of complaint given by the Jitendrasingh Girdharisingh Rawat (32), a resident of Supare Ngar, Kamptee, the Nandanvan police have registered the case under Sections 279, 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code read with sub-sections 134 and 177 of MVA.
In another case, a chain snatching reported at Chandan Nagar in Imambada Police Station area on Saturday.
According to police, Yash Dhnyaneshwar Kadambe (20), a resident of Ramcooler square along with his fried Mohd. Wasim were going to Medical square on motorcycle M(MH-31/DM-6685) at 8 pm. They stopped the motorcycle at Chandan Nagar to attend nature’s call. Meanwhile, two mean arrived the spot on moped and snatched away gold chain of Yash worth Rs 30,000 and sped away from the spot. Imambada police have registered the case under Sections 379 of Indian Penal Code.
