Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Underage riders booked along with parents for driving without license

CITY Traffic police have booked a total of 111 underage drivers along with their parents for driving motor vehicles in public places without license. Collective penalty worth Rs 1,03,900/- was recovered from the parents and the vehicles were released only after the parents/owners of the vehicle came to the spot or office of Traffic police.  Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Chinmay Pandit said that the action would continue as underage drivers are a threat for lives of themselves as well as others. According to statistics of traffic police, between January 1, 2019 and September 23, 2019, Indora Division topped the tally, fined 45 vehicles and collected fine worth Rs 45,000 from the parents or vehicle owners. ACB traps fraudster in Tajbagh

Posing as technician with Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGMCH), a fraudster tried to dupe a man on pretext of government job in the hospital. But he ran out of luck when Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) came in picture and arrested him red-handed for accepting bribe worth Rs 20,000 cash on Tuesday.   The accused has been identified Javed Pathan Hamid Pathan (31), a resident of Gadchiroli. He was living in a rented accommodation in the city. The complainant is an auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Tajbagh area. The accused met the complainant when he was transporting patients in the auto. Posing himself as technician with IGMCH, Javed told the complainant that he was having good relations with senior officials of IGMCH and collecting money for them. Human skeleton found in well at Pension Nagar

A human skeleton was found in a well located in Pension Nagar under the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan police station area on Tuesday night.   According to police, the skeleton was found by NMC employees when they were cleaning the well with the help of water pump. They found the skeletal remains, and alerted the police. Police said that the deceased person is suspected to be aged between 30 and 35 years.  The remains have been collected and sent for the post-mortem examination to the hospital. A DNA test will be performed to the remains and police teams are on the job to identify the deceased and also checking missing persons. Boy dies of strangulation while playing on cradle

A nine-year-old boy died in a freak mishap when he was strangled while playing on the handmade swing-like cradle at his house in Pardi area on Saturday night. Mohit Narendra Dhore (9) was found hanging from the cradle by his parents at their one room house.  According to police, the parents of the boy are daily wage workers. They had gone to the job in the morning while Mohit and his younger brother (7) were at the home. The incident occurred in the afternoon when Mohit was playing on the cradle and his younger brother was sleeping due to fever.   When the parents returned home at 7.20 pm, they found Mohit strangled in the rope of cradle. They took him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A police officer said that Mohit was used to swing on the cradle, he must have got entangled while playing. Mumbai youth drowns in Ambazari lake

A picnic party turned into tragedy when a youth drowned in Ambazari lake while swimming on Sunday morning. The youth is native of Mumbai and was an executive at Ascent Business Solutions at IT Park. The deceased has been identified as Anand Rajesh Dwivedi (23), a resident of Matunga, Mumbai. According to police, Anand was staying at a rented accommodation near Sambhaji Chowk in Pratap Nagar area. He got the job in the company only about two and a half months ago.  Anand along with co-workers Harshal Gedam, Atul Namdev, Aditya Hedau and two others had gone to Ambazari lake for picnic in the morning hours. The youths had no plan of swimming before reaching the lake. After seeing people swimming in the lake, some of the youths decided to swim.  Harshal and Anand ventured into the waters. Youth attempts to kill priest for 30 rupees

A priest at Hanuman temple was attempted to murder by a man for Rs 30 in Narayanpur village in Katol police station on Friday night. The accused has been identified as Ramgopal Mishra (34), a resident of Naraynpur.  According to police, Gopalrao Mahadeo Gahukar (64), a resident of Paradsingha is priest at the temple for last 25 years. The unidentified accused came at the temple in the evening hours and demanded Rs 30 but the priest refused. Furious, the accused started abusing him and when he objected, he attacked Gopalrao with sharp-edged weapon. After stabbing the priest in neck, face and chest, Mishra fled the spot leaving Gopalrao in the pool of blood. He was rushed to the hospital by villagers where his condition is reportedly critical. NMC’s Aapli bus mows down 80-year-old woman

A 80-year-old woman was mowed down by a speeding Aapli Bus of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in MIDC police station area on Saturday afternoon.  The deceased has been identified Gourabai Bhagwandas Mahant, a resident of Gurajgaon, Tehsil- Saoner.   According to police, the accident occurred near Balaji Nagar Bus Stop in Hinga at 2.50 pm. The woman was walking on the road when the speeding bus mowed down her. Sustaining grievous injuries, the old-aged woman died on the spot. Woman learns about hubby’s affair, committs suicide

A 30-year-old woman committed suicide after finding out that husband had been cheating on her. The woman hanged herself at her residence in Hudkeshwar police station area when she was alone.  The deceased has been identified as Jayashree Vikram Narnawre, a resident of Lane No. 6, Mahalaxmi Nagar, Hudkeshwar.  According to police, Jayashree and Vikram tied nuptial knot in year 2014. Vikram have a shop in Ajni area. The woman learnt about Vikram’s extra marital affair on Thursday after checking his mobile phone. She decided to teach him lesson by ending her life. Goon put under preventive detention under MPDA

A 20-YEAR-OLD man, who has been previously booked in cases of attempt to murder, robbery and dacoity, has been has been put under a preventive detention, under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) of Slumlords Bootleggers and Drug Offenders Act, by City Police on Tuesday.  The accused has been identified as Lakhan alias Rohan Shailesh Dhuria (20), a resident of Ganesh Chowk, near Haj House, is a habitual offender. An official said Dhuria has been booked in several cases in Tehsil, Kotwali and Ganeshpeth areas.  Dhuria has been named in seven cases filed in various police stations across Nagpur City. He has been put under detention at Central Jail Nagpur, after an application to this effect was sent by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone III Rahul Maknikar. City Police rapped for dismal probe rate in sexual offence cases

NAGPUR Police have invited the ire of the Chief Secretary for their poor rate of investigation into sexual offences. Probe into more than 87.5 per cent sexual offences has not been completed within the stipulated 60-day period. The time-frame in sexual assault cases has been decided by Union Home Ministry by issuing The Criminal Law (Amendment) ordinance 2018. Chief Secretary of Maharashtra rapped the City Police for this lackluster attitude in a meeting held at Mumbai recently. “As per the new amendment, filing of chargesheet within 60 days is necessary in such cases. However, many police units in the State have failed to do it as many officers are simply unaware of new amendment,” Inspector General of Police Pratap Dighaonkar, Prevention of Atrocities against women (PAW), informed ‘The Hitavada’. US-based fraudsters target IDBI bank, siphon off Rs 60 lakh of 284 customers

TOTAL 284 customers of IDBI Bank across the country lost Rs 60 lakh after details of their debit cards were stolen by cyber criminals. The money was siphoned off to various accounts in banks across United States of America (USA). Prima facie investigation has revealed that the data of international debit cards (platinum) issued by IDBI was allegedly stolen by hackers and was then misused. Sources informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the on-line fraud was carried out in the intervening of August 25 and 26. Customers woke up to SMSs of transactions leaving them in shock. Many of them immediately blocked their debit cards after learning about the fraudulent transactions. An investigation in the crime revealed that the money was transferred from the accounts of the customers using international debit cards of the bank (platinum) of a particular batch. Publsihed on July 5, 2017  With an aim to reclaim the lost glory of detection’, Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr. K Venkatesham has decided to scrap all zonal units of City Crime Branch and revert back to centralised system. The Zonal units were launched last year to create deterrence in the crime world and aim was that it would provide operational flexibility. But the idea did not bear fruits and result were not up to the mark, revealed the assessment done by top bosses.  When asked, CP Dr. Venkatesham told The Hitavada that all territorial units would be scrapped and new ‘functional units’ would be formed to improve detection rate. BMW car catches fire at Alankar Talkies Square

Published on July 5, 2017 Tense moment bear at Alankar Talkies square when a BMW car caught fire on Tuesday. The three occupants of the car managed to escape unhurt. But traffic movement on VIP road and North Ambazari Road was badly affected for an hour. Electricity theft : SNDL slapping Damage to Public Property Act for power theft

Published on July 4, 2017 WITH an aim to curb the menace of power pilferage and recover pending amount in power theft cases, Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd (SNDL) has started booking those involved in power theft under Section 3 of The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, a non-bailable offence. Earlier, the accused used to be charged only under the Electricity Act provisions which has failed to act as a deterrent.  About 20 persons involved in power theft have been booked under the act last month and the action would be continue to create deterrence of law.  It may be mentioned that electricity meter is considered as public property among host of other electrical infrastructure publicly installed for providing services to citizens at large. Fuel pump owners short charging consumers in State since last five-years

The fraud unearthed shows use of advanced technology to cover-up the tampering and this was not known till date even to best of brains in business. Ornaments worth Rs 40,000 stolen from woman's bag in auto-rickshaw

Gold ornaments worth Rs 40,000 of a woman were stolen when she was traveling in an auto-rickshaw in Nandanvan area.  According to police, Shilpa Ravindra Nimcharkar (49), a resident of Plot No. 128, Telecom Colony, boarded in the auto at Rana Pratap Nagar to visit her brother’s house in Nandanvan area on Wedensday at 3.30 pm. When the auto was passing through Swami Narayan temple road, an unidentified woman co-passenger stolen her gold ornaments kept in a bag. Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Sunday were granted five days custody of Hemant Sikander Jham, Director of Jham Builders and Developers, and Youvan Jivandas Gambhir (34) whom they arrested for duping over 400 investors of crores of rupees. The accused were absconding for the past two years and landed in police dragnet on Saturday. District and Sessions Judge (MPID) Special Court Patil remanded the accused to police custody for five days. RPF SECR to form three new detective dog squads

South East Central Railway (SECR) has approved a proposal for construction of three kennels at Nagbhid, Dongargadh and Bilaspur station for dedicated detective dog squads. Railway Protection Force (RPF) of SECR will get a helping hand with the dog squad for checking of trains and passenger luggage.  Divisional Security Commandant (DSC) Ashutosh Pandey informed The Hitavada that tendering process would be start this month. Similarly, three dogs will be purchased from the Hydarabad this month. “The dogs will be inducted in the service after eight months of training,” he said and added that funds for maintaining the canines have already been sanctioned. The RPF is entrusted with the responsibility of escorting passenger trains and providing security on platforms, passenger and circulating areas besides protecting railway property.
