The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A 80-year-old woman was mowed down by a speeding Aapli Bus of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in MIDC police station area on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified Gourabai Bhagwandas Mahant, a resident of Gurajgaon, Tehsil- Saoner. According to police, the accident occurred near Balaji Nagar Bus Stop in Hinga at 2.50 pm. The woman was walking on the road when the speeding bus mowed down her. Sustaining grievous injuries, the old-aged woman died on the spot. A large number of onlookers were gathered at the spot after the accident.
MIDC police have arrested bus driver - Sadashiv Manohar Jichkar (41), a resident of Indira Mata Nagar - and booked him under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
Woman killed by nephew at Katol
A 68-year-old woman was murdered by her nephew at Katol on Thursday night. The accused dumped the body in the well to destroy the evidence.
The accused has been identified as Chandrashekhar Natthuji Gondane (34), a resident of Katol while the deceased is - Bojantabai Rajaram Gajbhiye, a resident of Ward No. 12, Narkhed.
According to police, the woman had gone to the house of the accused to see her ailing brother - Natthuji Gondane - at Katol on Thursday evening. Bhojantabai decided to stay at Natthu’s house after learning about Natthuji was taken to hospital in Nagpur. Chandrashekhar arrived home inebriated condition at 8 pm. When Bhojantabai objected him, he got furious and strangulated her. Soon after, he dumped the body in well and fled the spot. The incident came to fore on Friday morning.
Katol police have registered the case under Sections 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
