It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A nine-year-old boy died in a freak mishap when he was strangled while playing on the handmade swing-like cradle at his house in Pardi area on Saturday night.
Mohit Narendra Dhore (9) was found hanging from the cradle by his parents at their one room house.
According to police, the parents of the boy are daily wage workers. They had gone to the job in the morning while Mohit and his younger brother (7) were at the home. The incident occurred in the afternoon when Mohit was playing on the cradle and his younger brother was sleeping due to fever.
When the parents returned home at 7.20 pm, they found Mohit strangled in the rope of cradle. They took him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A police officer said that Mohit was used to swing on the cradle, he must have got entangled while playing. Pardi police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on.
Man mows down by bus in Kalamna
A 50-year-old man was mowed down by a speeding bus on Kalamna road in New Kamptee police station area on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, Suresh Dhanveer Giri (50), a resident of Ranala was walking on the road at 12.55 pm when an unidentified bus mowed him down. He sustained grievous injuries in the mishap and died on the spot.
The bus driver sped away from the spot immediately after the accident. A police officer said that the the bus driver failed to control the bus as it was moving in the great speed. This was the second fatal accident in last two days by the bus. The police have launched searches for identification of accused involved in the accused.
An offence under Sections 279, 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code read with Section 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act was registered against unidentified bus driver. Further investigation is on.
Two case of molestation of minors reported
Two cases of molestation of minor girls were reported in the city under the jurisdiction of Lakadganj and Wadi police stations.
A 23-year-old youth was booked by Lakadganj police for molesting a teenage girl. The accused was following the girl when she was going to school and also making phone calls on her mobile phone. The accused has been identified as Puvendra alias Raj Yeshwant Matre (23), a resident of Lakadganj. An offence under Sections 354 (a) (1) (d) of Indian Penal Code read with Sections of POSCO Act was registered against the accused.
In another case, Wadi police have booked Piyushsingh Arunendrasingh (21), a resident of Wadi, for outraging modesty of a 17-year-old girl. The accused also bused the girl when she was going to school. A case under Sections 294, 354 (d), 504, 506 (b) of Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused at Wadi police station.
