Dabo club Nagpur Efforts to reopen the controversial Dabo Club, which was shut down for 45 days following the murder of two young men, have triggered strong anger and fear among the families of the victims. The incident took place in the early hours of December 26 last year during a Christmas party at Dabo Club. Pranav Ranavare (27) was allegedly killed after a minor dispute. His friend, Gaurav Karda (34), was badly injured in the same incident and later died during treatment. The Sonegaon police arrested six accused - Soumya Deshmukh, Mehul alias Monu Rahate, Rajiv Chawla, Abhay Jhamtani, Gappu Sharma and Tushar Nankani. All the accused are currently lodged in jail. The club is owned by Directors Devyani Vijay Wadettiwar, Karan Vikram Thakkar and Mohd Hamza Rayeen. A 20-YEAR-OLD man, who has been previously booked in cases of attempt to murder, robbery and dacoity, has been has been put under a preventive detention, under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) of Slumlords Bootleggers and Drug Offenders Act, by City Police on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Lakhan alias Rohan Shailesh Dhuria (20), a resident of Ganesh Chowk, near Haj House, is a habitual offender. An official said Dhuria has been booked in several cases in Tehsil, Kotwali and Ganeshpeth areas.
Dhuria has been named in seven cases filed in various police stations across Nagpur City. He has been put under detention at Central Jail Nagpur, after an application to this effect was sent by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone III Rahul Maknikar. Commissioner of Police Dr. B K Upadhyaya approved the application on Tuesday.
A press release issued by the city police stated, “Despite earlier preventive measures taken against Dhuria, his criminal activities did not stop. He had created a climate of fear in the area, due to which people would not come forward to complain against him. The action under the MPDA has been taken to restore stability and order in the areas.”
The City Police has adopted a policy to apply measures under acts like the MPDA and the MCOCA against habitual offenders, who evade the regular laws by taking advantage of the loopholes. As per the release, in the last 12 months, police have taken actions against 37 criminals under such acts. Dhuria and few others had recently attacked a restaurent owner in Wathoda area in Nandanvan when he was under externemnt order.
