IGP Chandra Kishore Mina By Dheeraj Fartode Chandra Kishore Mina, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Currently serving as Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Mina has held several important positions in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. While serving as ASP in Gadchiroli, Mina led a successful anti-Naxal operation in 2009, which resulted in the Petha encounter, weakening the Naxal movement. This operation earned him the DG Insignia. As SP in Akola and Nanded, Mina used innovative methods to maintain communal harmony and resolve tensions effectively. He uncovered a state-wide kidney transplant racket in Akola and, as DCP in Nagpur, dismantled organized crime syndicates through MCOCA and MPDA cases. 20,000 service and postal ballots distributed for assembly polls

By Dheeraj Fartode District Election Commission had distributed around 20,000 postal and service ballot for the assembly election. The ballots would be major factor in deciding fate of MLA in 12 constituencies of city and district. Postal ballot are meant for those on polling duty during the time of election while service ballot are meant for personnel working in armed forces. Ajay Ramteke, Deputy District Returning Officer told ‘The Hitavada’ that after receiving applications for service ballots from Regiment Headquarters, the district election commission had dispatched 3,312 service ballots. Total 28,000 government employees including 5,000 policemen were deployed for the election process in entire Nagpur District. Neighbour booked for raping a 9-year-old girl

By Dheeraj Fartode A 38-year-old farmer was booked by Veltur police of Nagpur Rural for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl by first luring her with promise of a chocolate at his home at Channa village of Kuhi taluka. The girl has been admitted to city hospital as she sustained critical injuries due to this heinous crime committed by a perverse minded man. The accused has been identified as Vasanta Urkuda Gaikwad (38), a resident of Channa village of Kuhi taluka. Vasanta is a farmer and has been arrested by cops. According to police, the incident took place on October 12 at 1 pm. the victim was playing in front of her house when the accused asked her to come to his house and promised to give her chocolate. Election Commission’s flying squad seizes Rs 70 lakh cash from car

By Dheeraj Fartode FLYING Squad of Election Commission, monitoring  the implementation of Model Code of Conduct and expenditure for Legislative Assembly elections, intercepted a Maruti Swift car near Mahal (in Kotwali Police Station area) and seized  Rs 70 lakh unaccounted cash from it, besides detaining two persons for interrogation in this connection on Thursday. Acting on a tip off, the Flying Squad blocked the car near Jagnade Square in the afternoon. During the search, the squad members found a bag containing cash in the utility box of the car. Flying Squad members took the cash along with the Maruti Swift car (MH-31/CR-908) and its driver to Kotwali Police Station. The seizure of cash created quite a sensation in political circles. Tension in North Nagpur after miscreants pelted stones at religious place in Jaripatka

Despite deployment of a huge police posse, protesters including men, women and children pelted stones and torched vehicles. Several cars and two wheelers were damaged by the mob. The unruly crowd ransacked some restaurants and eateries forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters. Tension in Kanhan over WCL guard firing at mob

Labourer kills wife over domestic issue

By Dheeraj Fartode A FARM LABOURER brutally killed his wife over a domestic issue and threw her body in a well in village Brahmani in the small hours of Thursday. The killer husband is absconding. Identified as Rajkumari Uikey (24), the deceased was a resident of village Brahmani. Rajkumari’s husband Rajan Ratilal Uikey (28), a native of Gangatola, district Seoni (Madhya Pradesh) used to work as a labourer at Ravindra Bhelkar’s farm. Often, Rajan used to quarrel with Rajkumari over petty issues.  Rajan picked up a quarrel with his wife. When Rajkumari started arguing with him, Rajan lost his temper. Cops smell a rat in ‘shot at’ tale of Independent candidate

After preliminary investigations, the cops are now smelling a rat in the theory of Chafle, who withdrew from the election fray from Katol constituency.
