By Dheeraj Fartode The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has taken strong note of serious deficiencies on the Nagpur–Katol–Kalmeshwar road after a detailed inspection by a three-member committee. Based on the committee’s findings, the court on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and asked for a reply by January 6. The matter was heard by Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas. Earlier, the court had ordered a site inspection to verify whether the development work on the Nagpur-Katol road was completed as claimed by NHAI and to assess how much work was still pending. Accordingly, a committee comprising Advocates Ashwin Deshpande, Prasad Bawankule, Aradhya Pandey, along with NHAI’s lawyer Adv Anish Kathane, conducted the inspection on Saturday and submitted its report on Monday. Deceased Mitthu alias Shital Gopal Singh (30), a resident of Kanhan Colliery was also an accused in double murder case in 2009. Court had sentenced him to life in the case. However, he was later acquitted by the High Court while allowing his appeal. A senior police officer informed that Mitthu was trying to establish his supremacy in the area and had physically assaulted many persons including his rival goons.
