Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Neighbour booked for raping a 9-year-old girl

A 38-year-old farmer was booked by Veltur police of Nagpur Rural for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl by first luring her with promise of a chocolate at his home at Channa village of Kuhi taluka. The girl has been admitted to city hospital as she sustained critical injuries due to this heinous crime committed by a perverse minded man.

The accused has been identified as Vasanta Urkuda Gaikwad (38), a resident of Channa village of Kuhi taluka. Vasanta is a farmer and has been arrested by cops. According to police, the incident took place on October 12 at 1 pm. the victim was playing in front of her house when the accused asked her to come to his house and promised to give her chocolate. As Vasanta is neighbour of the girl, without any suspicion she followed him innocently.

The girl’s parents, farm labouers, had gone to their respective works and no one was present even at Vasant’s place. He forced her into the house and sexually abused her. The accused also threatened her of dire consequences if she dared to narrate this incident to anyone including her parents.

The girl did not utter a word to her parents. However, her health started deteriorating at night. Her parents rushed her to a private hospital in Dighori area of Nagpur where doctors informed them that their daughter had been brutally raped. The parents were shell shocked and tried to persuade the girl to narrate the harrowing episode. However, the girl who was under severe trauma just broke up and started crying. After much persuasion from her parents, the girl finally narrated the incident and informed them about Vasanta’s cruelty.

On the basis of complaint lodged by victim’s parents, Veltur police have registered the case under section 376 (2), (I), (m) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with sub section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and arrested the accused. Police informed that the girl is still under shock and her condition is still critical.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
