Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Man murdered, another escapes bid on life in city

A murder and attempt to murder with riot was reported from the jurisdictions of Yashodhara Nagar and Rana Pratap Nagar police stations on Thursday. Yashodhara Nagar police have arrested a man for the murder and Rana Pratap Nagar police have booked six persons for attempt to murder and for riot.

In first case, a 34-year-old man was hacked to death a youth over old rivalry near his residence at Binaki Mangalwari area  under the jurisdiction of Yadhodhara Nagar police station in the afternoon today.  According to police, Dnyaneshwar Prushottam Godlikar and Rajesh Somkar (30), resides in Binaki Mangalwari, Kanji House Square. Both are labourers and use to drink together. On Wednesday, an altercation took place between them over a petty issue. They both abused each other and during the feud both doled out life threat to other.

On Thursday afternoon, Somkar accosted Godlikar and picked a quarrel. Meanwhile, Somkar whipped out the weapon and stabbed Godlikar. Residents of the area rushed Godlikar to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) where doctors declared him dead at 9 pm. Cops have arrested the accused and booked him under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigations are on.

At Rana Pratap Nagar, two group clashed with each other over petty issue on Thursday night. One persons sustained critical injuries and was admitted to hospital. According to police, six youths attacked Ravi Anand Jagane (27), a resident of Kamgar Colony over old rivalry. The accused hit him on his head with boulder and injured him. He was rushed to a private hospital. Rana Pratap Nagar police have booked six persons in this connection under section 143, 145, 147, 307 and 34 of IPC. Further investigations are on.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion.
