By Dheeraj Fartode The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has taken strong note of serious deficiencies on the Nagpur–Katol–Kalmeshwar road after a detailed inspection by a three-member committee. Based on the committee’s findings, the court on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and asked for a reply by January 6. The matter was heard by Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas. Earlier, the court had ordered a site inspection to verify whether the development work on the Nagpur-Katol road was completed as claimed by NHAI and to assess how much work was still pending. Accordingly, a committee comprising Advocates Ashwin Deshpande, Prasad Bawankule, Aradhya Pandey, along with NHAI’s lawyer Adv Anish Kathane, conducted the inspection on Saturday and submitted its report on Monday. A FARM LABOURER brutally killed his wife over a domestic issue and threw her body in a well in village Brahmani in the small hours of Thursday. The killer husband is absconding.
Identified as Rajkumari Uikey (24), the deceased was a resident of village Brahmani. Rajkumari’s husband Rajan Ratilal Uikey (28), a native of Gangatola, district Seoni (Madhya Pradesh) used to work as a labourer at Ravindra Bhelkar’s farm. Often, Rajan used to quarrel with Rajkumari over petty issues.
Rajan picked up a quarrel with his wife. When Rajkumari started arguing with him, Rajan lost his temper. He killed Rajkumari with a sharp-edged weapon and threw the body in the well situated near the farm in a bid to destroy the evidence.
On Thursday morning, Bhelkar noticed blood stains on the floor near Rajan Uikey’s hut. As the couple was missing, he started inquirying about Rajan and Rajkumari. Some villagers noticed Rajkumari’s body in the well and alerted the cops.
Staff from Kalmeshwar Police Station arrived on being informed. Cops fished out the body and sent it for post-mortem. After registering a case under Section 302 and 201 ofthe IPC, Kalmeshwar Police launched a manhunt for Rajan.
