Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Underage riders booked along with parents for driving without license

CITY Traffic police have booked a total of 111 underage drivers along with their parents for driving motor vehicles in public places without license. Collective penalty worth Rs 1,03,900/- was recovered from the parents and the vehicles were released only after the parents/owners of the vehicle came to the spot or office of Traffic police.  Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Chinmay Pandit said that the action would continue as underage drivers are a threat for lives of themselves as well as others. According to statistics of traffic police, between January 1, 2019 and September 23, 2019, Indora Division topped the tally, fined 45 vehicles and collected fine worth Rs 45,000 from the parents or vehicle owners. ACB traps fraudster in Tajbagh

Posing as technician with Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGMCH), a fraudster tried to dupe a man on pretext of government job in the hospital. But he ran out of luck when Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) came in picture and arrested him red-handed for accepting bribe worth Rs 20,000 cash on Tuesday.   The accused has been identified Javed Pathan Hamid Pathan (31), a resident of Gadchiroli. He was living in a rented accommodation in the city. The complainant is an auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Tajbagh area. The accused met the complainant when he was transporting patients in the auto. Posing himself as technician with IGMCH, Javed told the complainant that he was having good relations with senior officials of IGMCH and collecting money for them. Human skeleton found in well at Pension Nagar

A human skeleton was found in a well located in Pension Nagar under the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan police station area on Tuesday night.   According to police, the skeleton was found by NMC employees when they were cleaning the well with the help of water pump. They found the skeletal remains, and alerted the police. Police said that the deceased person is suspected to be aged between 30 and 35 years.  The remains have been collected and sent for the post-mortem examination to the hospital. A DNA test will be performed to the remains and police teams are on the job to identify the deceased and also checking missing persons. Boy dies of strangulation while playing on cradle

A nine-year-old boy died in a freak mishap when he was strangled while playing on the handmade swing-like cradle at his house in Pardi area on Saturday night. Mohit Narendra Dhore (9) was found hanging from the cradle by his parents at their one room house.  According to police, the parents of the boy are daily wage workers. They had gone to the job in the morning while Mohit and his younger brother (7) were at the home. The incident occurred in the afternoon when Mohit was playing on the cradle and his younger brother was sleeping due to fever.   When the parents returned home at 7.20 pm, they found Mohit strangled in the rope of cradle. They took him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A police officer said that Mohit was used to swing on the cradle, he must have got entangled while playing. Mumbai youth drowns in Ambazari lake

A picnic party turned into tragedy when a youth drowned in Ambazari lake while swimming on Sunday morning. The youth is native of Mumbai and was an executive at Ascent Business Solutions at IT Park. The deceased has been identified as Anand Rajesh Dwivedi (23), a resident of Matunga, Mumbai. According to police, Anand was staying at a rented accommodation near Sambhaji Chowk in Pratap Nagar area. He got the job in the company only about two and a half months ago.  Anand along with co-workers Harshal Gedam, Atul Namdev, Aditya Hedau and two others had gone to Ambazari lake for picnic in the morning hours. The youths had no plan of swimming before reaching the lake. After seeing people swimming in the lake, some of the youths decided to swim.  Harshal and Anand ventured into the waters. Youth attempts to kill priest for 30 rupees

A priest at Hanuman temple was attempted to murder by a man for Rs 30 in Narayanpur village in Katol police station on Friday night. The accused has been identified as Ramgopal Mishra (34), a resident of Naraynpur.  According to police, Gopalrao Mahadeo Gahukar (64), a resident of Paradsingha is priest at the temple for last 25 years. The unidentified accused came at the temple in the evening hours and demanded Rs 30 but the priest refused. Furious, the accused started abusing him and when he objected, he attacked Gopalrao with sharp-edged weapon. After stabbing the priest in neck, face and chest, Mishra fled the spot leaving Gopalrao in the pool of blood. He was rushed to the hospital by villagers where his condition is reportedly critical. NMC’s Aapli bus mows down 80-year-old woman

A 80-year-old woman was mowed down by a speeding Aapli Bus of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in MIDC police station area on Saturday afternoon.  The deceased has been identified Gourabai Bhagwandas Mahant, a resident of Gurajgaon, Tehsil- Saoner.   According to police, the accident occurred near Balaji Nagar Bus Stop in Hinga at 2.50 pm. The woman was walking on the road when the speeding bus mowed down her. Sustaining grievous injuries, the old-aged woman died on the spot. A large number of onlookers were gathered at the spot after the accident.  MIDC police have arrested bus driver - Sadashiv Manohar Jichkar (41), a resident of Indira Mata Nagar - and booked him under Sections 279 and 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code.
