The City police have put in place a high-tech security plan for New Year’s Eve to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations. Sniffer dogs will be used to hunt down drug consumption on city roads, while drones will scan rooftops and isolated areas to prevent illegal activities. In addition, police will set up checking and nakabandi at 131 points across the city to keep strict watch on drunk driving and maintain law and order throughout the night. Around 2,500 policemen, from police constables to the Police Commissioner , will be deployed on city roads to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents during the celebrations. DCP Rashmita Rao during the combing operation.  In a strong move to ensure public safety ahead of New Year celebrations and the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections , the Zone  police led by DCP Rashmita Rao, carried out a special combing and nakabandi operation between December 27 and December 30. The drive was conducted daily from 7 pm to 11 pm by all police stations under Zone 4 . During the operation, police teams checked suspicious persons and vehicles and took strict action against those involved in illegal activities. According to official data, a total of 149 suspects and accused were examined, while 193 suspicious vehicles were checked. Police seized four illegal weapons during the operation. After mounting complaints from residents and repeated incidents of disorder, the Bajaj Nagar Police have finally launched a strong crackdown on restaurants illegally serving liquor and allowing customers to drink on their premises without valid licences from the State Excise Department .  The crackdown was initiated against Jagdish Saoji, Chakna Restaurant , and Jack and Jill Restaurant for violating liquor laws. These establishments were found providing space for customers to consume alcohol without the required permissions. The brutal killing has raised serious questions about what was happening inside the club that night and whether drug consumption triggered violent behaviour among the accused. Following the closure of Dabo Club for 45 days, police are now focusing on whether the accused had consumed drugs and came to the club. With New Year celebrations approaching, the Nagpur Rural Police have launched a special drive against drunk driving and illegal liquor to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. The campaign is being carried out from December 24 to December 31, 2025, across the district, with strict action promised against violators. Under this special campaign, police have taken a total of 229 actions under the Motor Vehicles Act and registered 15 cases related to illegal liquor so far.   The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has given relief to Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited by directing the State of Maharashtra to grant a full two-year extension of the Letter of Intent (LOI) for a limestone mining lease in Chandrapur district . The court was hearing a writ petition filed by Dalmia Cement challenging a state government letter dated September 1, 2025, which denied proper extension of the LOI for the Gojoli Mineral Block . The case was heard by Justices Anil S Kilor and Rajnish R Vyas . Dalmia Cement had emerged as the preferred bidder for the Gojoli limestone block after offering the highest bid in a government auction. The company received the LOI in September 2020, valid for three years and extendable by two more years under the Mineral (Auction) Rules, 2015 .   The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has dismissed a writ petition filed by 70-year-old Dr Vidya Sagar Banarsi Das Garg , who had alleged continuous harassment by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other agencies in connection with a bank fraud case . The petition was heard by Justices Anil S Kilor and Rajnish R Vyas . Dr Garg, a senior citizen from Nagpur , claimed that he was wrongly implicated in an FIR registered by the CBI in December 2019 following a complaint by Punjab National Bank, Kolkata . He told the court that he was only a salaried whole time director in Corporate Ispat Alloys Ltd and had no role in the day-to-day affairs of the company. The State Information Commission (SIC), Mumbai headquarters , has strongly criticised the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (Maharail) for failing to respond to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by former Minister of State and ex-MLA Dr Avinash Warjukar .  The SIC Rahul Pande has directed Maharail to provide complete information within a fixed time and has expressed serious concern over the way RTI applications are being handled by the corporation. Dr Warjukar had filed RTI applications on February 15, 2024 and again on January 23, 2025, seeking information on 12 points related to the formation of Maharail, appointment of its Managing Director , approvals of works and the scope of development projects undertaken by the corporation. Dabo Club Nagpur The City police have ordered the owners of Dabo Club and Kitchen to shut down the establishment for the next 45 days after a brutal murder outside the club on Wardha Road . An eight-month-old girl was allegedly snatched by a wild animal from her family’s temporary hut during the night in Narsala area. The infant’s mutilated body was later found nearby which left her migrant labourer parents shattered and the entire locality gripped by fear and grief. Preliminary findings suggest the attack may have been carried out by a fox or hyena, rather than a leopard. The deceased has been identified as Anushka Ravikishan Meda, whose family originally hails from Similia village in Madhya Pradesh . What was meant to be a cheerful Christmas celebration at the CP Club in Civil Lines turned ugly late on Tuesday night after a heated argument led to a violent attack. A young man was seriously injured after being hit with a glass during a party, following abuses allegedly made in the name of a BJP MLA. The incident took place in the early hours of December 25 at the 1901 Lounge of the CP Club, where a Christmas party was being hosted. According to police, the party was attended by several well-known faces from the city. Acting on clear directives from the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal has instructed all police station in-charges to strictly enforce penalties against those using or selling nylon manja. As per the court’s order, offenders must be directed to pay fines of Rs 50,000 for use and Rs 2.50 lakh for sale, to be imposed through the courts. In a circular issued to all units, Dr Singal has directed police to register offences under Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against violators. The move is aimed to curb the growing menace of nylon manja, which poses serious risks to birds, animals, two-wheeler riders, and pedestrians. The CP has also ordered strict monitoring of courier companies and distribution centres linked to e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon. A major financial scam involving credit cards and personal loans to the tune of Rs 1.65 crore has come to light at Union Bank of India’s Ghat Road branch, under Ganeshpeth police station limits. Based on the committee’s findings, the court on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and asked for a reply by January 6. Earlier, the court had ordered a site inspection to verify whether the development work on the Nagpur-Katol road was completed as claimed by NHAI and to assess how much work was still pending.
