In a strong move to ensure public safety ahead of New Year celebrations and the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections, the Zone police led by DCP Rashmita Rao, carried out a special combing and nakabandi operation between December 27 and December 30.
The drive was conducted daily from 7 pm to 11 pm by all police stations under Zone 4. During the operation, police teams checked suspicious persons and vehicles and took strict action against those involved in illegal activities.
According to official data, a total of 149 suspects and accused were examined, while 193 suspicious vehicles were checked. Police seized four illegal weapons during the operation. Action was taken in 13 cases related to illegal liquor sales and in six cases involving drug consumption. As many as 53 people were booked for consuming alcohol in public places. Police also registered two gambling cases and took action against one externed accused found violating restrictions. In addition, effective action was taken in 13 cases of drunk driving.
The operation was mainly carried out in the areas under Hudkeshwar, Nandanvan, Imambada, Ajni, Sakkardara and Beltarodi police stations, where police visibility was increased to deter criminal activities.
For the operation, the DCP Rao deployed one Assistant Commissioner of Police, three Police Inspectors, 10 officers and 50 constables. DCP Rao said strict action against criminals will continue and a zero-tolerance policy is being followed against alcohol, drugs, illegal weapons and criminal tendencies.
