DCP spits and assaults accused in custody

By Dheeraj Fartode Shocking allegations of misconduct have emerged against a police officer in Nagpur City Police. The officer is accused of abusive and degrading behaviour, particularly targeting accused in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Sources claim that the senior officer arrives at the police station and calls the accused into a separate room, where the officer not only hurls abuse at the accused but also spits at their face. Later, the officer allegedly kicks the accused in the private parts. In some incidents, when a couple approached a police station in Nagpur to file a complaint following a domestic dispute, the police sent a proposal for preventive action to the officer. However, instead of handling the matter professionally, the officer allegedly made the man sit down, then kicked him in the private parts and leave him in pain and humiliation. NSG holds mock drill at VNIT

Similar exercise was held on Monday at a mall By Dheeraj Fartode National Security Guard (NSG) commandos have undertaken a series of mock drill in city. On Tuesday the NSG team along with local police moved into Visvewaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) and held the drill. Senior police official said it is a regular exercise done to keep force into high action mode. Such drills also help in fine tuning anti-terrorist strategies. The prevailing inputs with intelligence agencies point out to susceptibility of urban areas in country. Hence NSG has got into high action mode. The reports with local top police officers are that NSG has previously conducted such mock drills at Hyderabad and Kolkata before coming to city. Serial killer nabbed, three murders in three days

Arrest of Ramesh Harishchandra Hadge (22) came as a major relief for city police. A shaken police force expressed a sigh of relief on getting the breakthrough. While two bodies were found in public places in jurisdiction of Nandanvan police station, on Tuesday another gory murder came to light in Kalamna area. The city police was in tizzy in aftermath of two murders in Nandanvan area. The cops were shaken as in both the cases there were many similarities and it was concluded that a madman is on prowl. For police it a major challenge as neither of bodies was identified nor was any clue available. MSEDCL proposes lower tariff for industries

However, there is mild power shock for domestic consumers  By Dheeraj Fartode Call it a mild shock due to commitment of new Government to bring down power tariff in state, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has proposed 25% hike in Fixed/demand charges of domestic users and 16% hike for fixed/demand charges for industrial users. This is different from total tariff hike and its overall impact will not be very significant. In the Mulit Year Tariff filed by MSEDCL, the utility has maintained line of state governemnt and proposed to reduce power tarriff for industries by 5% and also maintained same rates of power for agriculture sector.  The MSEDCL filed a Petition for Multi Year Tariff for Financial Year (FY) 2013-14 to 2015-16, before the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) under the Electricity Act, 2003. Nagpur Range Police records 77% detection rate in 2014

However in property crimes the detection is below 40% which is a cause of concerns By Dheeraj Fartode IPS Ravindra Kadam, Special IG Nagpur Range  Nagpur Range Police have recorded 77% detection rate in 2014, which is a drop of two per cent as compared to 2013. Reporting 29,300 crime cases in 2014, the Range -- including Nagpur Rural, Wardha, Bhandara and Chandrapur districts -- have recorded 100% detection in rape and molestation cases. However in property crimes the detection is below 40% which is a cause of concerns. Under major crime cases head, 175 murders were reported in the Range of which 162 were detected i.e. a 93% rate of detection. However there is sharp rise in numbers of attempt to murder cases which zoomed to 177 in 2014 as compared to 117 cases in 2013.
