Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Police crack one-year-old theft case, recovers gold worth Rs 21 lakh

With arrest of prime accused and recovery of stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 21 lakh, Bajaj Nagar police on Tuesday claimed to have solved a burglary case.  A police official said that house of Prof. Yogesh Shende (37), a resident of Railway Colony, Rana Pratap Nagar was burgled in August last year when Shende along with family members had gone to relative’s place. The intruders had stolen gold ornaments weighing 455 grams and Rs 35,000/- in cash, the police said. After registering an offence, the police started investigation and arrested Amol Mahadeo Raut (32), a resident of Butibori. But only cash of Rs 35,000/- was recovered from him. During interrogation, Raut told the police that his accomplices in the crime Shrikant Jeevan Nikhade (29), resident of Titur, Kuhi, had kept the jewellry with him. A ‘Friend’ from matrimonial site duped a woman of Rs 2.25 lakh, Sonegaon police said. The shocking incident is a lesson for those who shared their contact details with unknown persons on social media. According to police, complainant Meena Ashok Barapatre (42), a resident of Indrapuram, Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, befriended with accused Rimpi Khandusa (39), a resident of Greater Kailash, New Delhi. They met at Hotel Centre Point on Wardha Road on November 8. After roaming together in the city, the accused managed to gain her confidence with his sweet talk. When Meena was relaxing in the room, the accused took her Debit card and withdrew Rs one lakh from ATM and also transferred Rs 40,000/- to his bank account. Gang-war in Dighori; two youths brutally murdered by rival gang

AN INTER-GANG rivalry simmered to such an extent in Dighori area that two members of the notorious Thawkar gang were brutally murdered by three members of Mohod gang. On pretext of having discussion, the accused took the youths to Dongargaon on Umred road in a car late Sunday night where they killed them by stabbing them with sharp weapons and also smashing their heads with a cement pole. Number of road accidents dips in State

THE road safety measures taken by Maharashtra Highway Police (MHP) are bearing fruits as the number of road accidents and fatalities is decreasing in the State. The State has recorded a drop of 8.47 per cent in all road accidents while road fatalities decreased by 3.56 per cent in year 2019. As per the statistics of road accidents from year 2016 to 2019, the State had recorded maximum 39,878 road accidents in year 2016. The number dropped to 36,056 in year 2017, to 35,717 in year 2018 and to 32,925 in year 2019. In effect, road accidents came down in Maharashtra by 17.43 per cent in last four years. Further analysis of the data showed that ‘without injury accidents’ played major role in bringing down graph of ‘overall accidents’ in the State. A total of 6,271 ‘without injury accidents’ were recorded in Maharashtra in year 2016 and the figure reduced to 3,568 with record drop of 43.10 per cent in year 2019. Woman hires contract killers for Rs 50,000 to murder husband

A 37-year-old woman was booked by Kelwad police for hiring contract killers to murder her husband. The police are wondering over the theory of contract killing as the woman hired the killers with a contract of Rs 50,000/- but gave just Rs 1,500/- as advance. The killers also accepted the contract with the promise of remaining amount would be paid after some time. A police official said that Devka alias Kavita Jaideep Lokhande (37), a resident of Saoner and Chandan Natthuji Diyewar (28), a resident of Saoner were arrested for killing Jaideep Sahebrao Lokhande (39), a resident of Saoner. DCP Sahu cracks whip against lockdown violators in Zone II

CONCERNED by the regular breach of rules laid down by the administration to contain the spread of coronavirus in the city, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone II Vinita Sahu cracked a whip against the violators and conducted surprise checking at market places and shops on Tuesday night. Many shops were slapped with fines for not following lockdown guidelines issued by Nagpur Municipal Corporation and State Government. As per the guidelines issued by NMC and State Government for the Unlock phase, all shops should close by 7 pm barring essential services. However, many shop owners are taking the guidelines casually and indulging in running their businesses late in the night. People are also least bothered about the safety measures and visit these shops without following rules of wearing face mask and maintaining social distance.
