A ‘Friend’ from matrimonial site duped a woman of Rs 2.25 lakh, Sonegaon police said. The shocking incident is a lesson for those who shared their contact details with unknown persons on social media.
According to police, complainant Meena Ashok Barapatre (42), a resident of Indrapuram, Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, befriended with accused Rimpi Khandusa (39), a resident of Greater Kailash, New Delhi. They met at Hotel Centre Point on Wardha Road on November 8. After roaming together in the city, the accused managed to gain her confidence with his sweet talk. When Meena was relaxing in the room, the accused took her Debit card and withdrew Rs one lakh from ATM and also transferred Rs 40,000/- to his bank account. Later, the walked away with her gold ornaments, i-phone and Rs 12,000/- in cash. The woman was shocked after realising the fraud. She approached the Sonegaon police and lodged a complaint. On the basis of complaint given by the woman, Sonegaon police have registered the case under Sections 420 and 380 of Indian Penal Code.
