Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Deceased Mitthu alias Shital Gopal Singh (30), a resident of Kanhan Colliery was also an accused in double murder case in 2009. Court had sentenced him to life in the case. However, he was later acquitted by the High Court while allowing his appeal. A senior police officer informed that Mitthu was trying to establish his supremacy in the area and had physically assaulted many persons including his rival goons. 20,000 service and postal ballots distributed for assembly polls

By Dheeraj Fartode District Election Commission had distributed around 20,000 postal and service ballot for the assembly election. The ballots would be major factor in deciding fate of MLA in 12 constituencies of city and district. Postal ballot are meant for those on polling duty during the time of election while service ballot are meant for personnel working in armed forces. Ajay Ramteke, Deputy District Returning Officer told ‘The Hitavada’ that after receiving applications for service ballots from Regiment Headquarters, the district election commission had dispatched 3,312 service ballots. Total 28,000 government employees including 5,000 policemen were deployed for the election process in entire Nagpur District. Out of them, total 16,436 government employees had filled form no 12, a must for casting vote through postal ballot.  It means that 19,748 service/postal ballots would play a decisive role in outcome of the 12 assembly constituencies. Yashodhara Nagar police have arrested a man for the murder and Rana Pratap Nagar police have booked six persons for attempt to murder and for riot. Neighbour booked for raping a 9-year-old girl

By Dheeraj Fartode A 38-year-old farmer was booked by Veltur police of Nagpur Rural for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl by first luring her with promise of a chocolate at his home at Channa village of Kuhi taluka. The girl has been admitted to city hospital as she sustained critical injuries due to this heinous crime committed by a perverse minded man. The accused has been identified as Vasanta Urkuda Gaikwad (38), a resident of Channa village of Kuhi taluka. Vasanta is a farmer and has been arrested by cops.
