It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. IGP Chandra Kishore Mina By Dheeraj Fartode Chandra Kishore Mina, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Singh has held several key positions in Nagpur, including Superintendent of Police (SP) for Nagpur Rural, SP CID Nagpur, and Vidarbha region and is currently posted as Special IGP (Admin) for the State Police. Singh’s first posting was as ASP in Bhamragad, Gadchiroli, in 2008, after which she became ASP in Gadchiroli. She later served as SP in Bhandara, Nagpur Rural, CID Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik Rural, CP in Amravati City, and Additional CP in Mumbai City. IGP Sanjay Darade By Dheeraj Fartode The Union Government has awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service to Sanjay Bhaskar Darade, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 2005 batch. Darade is recognized for his work especially in Nagpur City and Vidarbha region. Darade has served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Nagpur and as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). He is known for handling sensitive cases, particularly in corruption investigations and for leading successful operations against corruption. His work in Nagpur earned him praise at both local and state levels. He has also served in various other important roles, including as SP in Dharashiv, Yavatmal, and Nashik Rural. Tushar D Sakhare, an officer serving as Senior Commandant of the CISF Unit at Amritsar Airport, was also honoured with the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Sakhare, a resident of Nagpur, joined the CISF in 2005 and has had a distinguished career, serving in 12 different CISF units across India. He cracked down on coal mafias in West Bengal, where he conducted thousands of raids and recovered a major amounts of stolen coal. Sakhare has represented the CISF and India in two United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, where his service earned him two UN Medals. He has also been recognized with several awards, including the Director General Commendation Disc in 2015, for his dedication and excellence.

Roshan Yadav, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nagpur, was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Yadav has made significant contributions in fighting corruption, particularly in sensitive areas like Gadchiroli and Gondia, which are affected by Naxal activity. He has been involved in several successful operations against Naxals, including the seizure of important materials and the recovery of bodies during operations in dense forests. Yadav has also worked in various districts such as Nagpur, Gondia, and Chandrapur, where he led efforts against inter-state gangs involved in ATM thefts, robberies, and other serious crimes. His also did Grey Hound Commandos training at Hyderabad and also excelled in sports as well.

CP Dr Ravinder Singal Commissioner of Police (CP), Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Police Service. This prestigious recognition underlined his remarkable leadership and dedicated efforts in policing, stated a press release of City police.  Dr Singal, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1996 Maharashtra cadre, took charge as Nagpur’s Commissioner in February 2024. Since then, he has launched several important initiatives, including anti-drug campaigns, women’s safety programs, and the adoption of modern technology like the Artificial Intelligence-based SIMBA system for crime control, the press release claimed.  Dr. Singal has also successfully managed large public events and festivals and ensured ensuring safety and security across the city.
