Nagpur-Katol Road inspection exposes serious safety lapses, High Court issues notice to NHAI

By Dheeraj Fartode The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has taken strong note of serious deficiencies on the Nagpur–Katol–Kalmeshwar road after a detailed inspection by a three-member committee. Based on the committee’s findings, the court on Tuesday issued a show-cause notice to the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and asked for a reply by January 6. The matter was heard by Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas. Earlier, the court had ordered a site inspection to verify whether the development work on the Nagpur-Katol road was completed as claimed by NHAI and to assess how much work was still pending. Accordingly, a committee comprising Advocates Ashwin Deshpande, Prasad Bawankule, Aradhya Pandey, along with NHAI’s lawyer Adv Anish Kathane, conducted the inspection on Saturday and submitted its report on Monday. Currently serving as Special Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Mina has held several important positions in Nagpur and the Vidarbha region. President’s Police Medal announced for Dr Arti Singh

By Dheeraj Fartode The Union Government has also announced the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service to Dr Arti Singh, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch. Singh has held several key positions in Nagpur, including Superintendent of Police (SP) for Nagpur Rural, SP CID Nagpur, and Vidarbha region and is currently posted as Special IGP (Admin) for the State Police. Singh’s first posting was as ASP in Bhamragad, Gadchiroli, in 2008, after which she became ASP in Gadchiroli. She later served as SP in Bhandara, Nagpur Rural, CID Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik Rural, CP in Amravati City, and Additional CP in Mumbai City. Tushar Sakhare Receives President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service

Tushar D Sakhare, an officer serving as Senior Commandant of the CISF Unit at Amritsar Airport, was also honoured with the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Sakhare, a resident of Nagpur, joined the CISF in 2005 and has had a distinguished career, serving in 12 different CISF units across India. He cracked down on coal mafias in West Bengal, where he conducted thousands of raids and recovered a major amounts of stolen coal. Sakhare has represented the CISF and India in two United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, where his service earned him two UN Medals. DCP spits and assaults accused in custody

The officer is accused of abusive and degrading behaviour, particularly targeting accused in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Sources claim that the senior officer arrives at the police station and calls the accused into a separate room, where the officer not only hurls abuse at the accused but also spits at their face. Later, the officer allegedly kicks the accused in the private parts. In some incidents, when a couple approached a police station in Nagpur to file a complaint following a domestic dispute, the police sent a proposal for preventive action to the officer.
