Family members of a builder were held hostage by a youth using a toy gun in their Pipala residence for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, on Friday. It took a two-hour long, well-thought, filmy-style operation by the police to rescue the family members of builder Raju Vaidya. The shocking day-light incident has sent shockwaves across the city. The accused was identified as Jitendra Tulshiram Bisen (19), a resident of Hudkeshwar Khurd. Jitendra was in the catering business. He was unemployed after enforcement of the lockdown. His younger brother is a history-sheeter, a police official said. As Bisen was facing financial crunch, he decided to commit the robbery in the bungalow belonging to Vaidya in Pipala area. He had done a recce of the area and finalised Vaidya family as his target. At 2 pm on Friday, Bisen barged into the one-storey house with a gun and a sharp-weapon. A youth was strangled to death by his younger brother at Kotwal Burdi village in Katol tehsil on Friday night, Kalmeshwar police said. The deceased was identified as Chandrashekhar Ramaji Badakhal (34), a resident of Kotwal Burdi village. He was working in an explosive company. As Chandrashekhar was unmarried, he used to pick quarrels with parents under the influence of liquor and abuse them. Chandrashekhar came home on Friday, at 7.30 pm and started hurling abuses at parents and younger brother Ganesh (32). Angry over Chandrashekhar’s behaviour, Ganesh pushed him and strangled his throat with a T-shirt. Staff of Kalmeshwar police led by PI Ashif Raja Sheikh rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. An offence under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused. Further investigation is on.

An engineer, out for a night walk with his friends, was killed after being hit by a train in Narendra Nagar on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Vinay Singh alias Rahul Rajesh Chauhan (25), a resident of Navnath Society. According to police, Rahul had completed engineering and was looking for a job. Every night he used to go for evening walks near the Narendra Nagar flyover with his friends. On Tuesday night also all three went for a walk. While crossing the railway track from Over-bridge, both his friends stopped to attend nature's call. But Rahul went ahead. Meanwhile, a train came in a great speed from another side. Seeing the train approaching, both the friends alerted Rahul but he did not hear their voice and continued walking. He was hit by the train and died on the spot. A truck-mounted boom lift engaged for MahaMetro work crushed a beggar to death near Santra Market on Wednesday night. The accident occured when the operator of the machine was parking it on the road side, said police officials. According to police, the truck-mounted boom lift was tasked for painting the metro tracks. The operator reversed the machine and moved ahead at 7.30 pm. Due to the negligent driving of the operator, the man who was sleeping on the roadside came under the wheels of the machine. He died instantaneously on the spot as he was crushed under the large wheels of the truck. A large number of onlookers gathered at the spot following the accident. Brown sugar worth Rs 2.14 lakh was seized by Railway Protection Force (RPF) from 01039 Maharashtra Express. However, the smuggler managed to escape. A press release of RPF informed that Sub-Inspector Sitaram Jaat, constables Navin Kumar Singh and Ajay Singh were conducting checks in the train on Tuesday. They spotted an abandoned bag in DL-1 coach of the train. As no passenger claimed their ownership of the bag, the RPF staff took the bag to the Railway Station and opened it to see small packets of brown sugar. The bag was handed-over to Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation. A case under provisions of The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered by GRP. Action was done under the guidance of Divisional Security Commandant Ashutosh Pandey. “We are trying to identify the smuggler by checking CCTV footage of the platform,” said an official of GRP.

District Collector Ravindra Thakre informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the testing of Covid-19 patients would be conducted by health workers across the city from next week. Cured patients of Covid-19 will be tested by the health workers during the drive, he said and added that training for the drive has already begun. After finding high sugar levels of patients, the health workers will offer them proper medication. The testing will be done sub-centers under Primary Health Care Centre, he said. When a family of 20-members was in slumber at their house in Hudkeshwar, the thieves smoothly entered the house and decamped with gold ornaments and cash collectivelly worth Rs 20 lakh, Hudkeshwar police said. The police are suspecting that someone close to the family was involved in the theft. A police official said that the theft took place between 1 am and 5.30 am when all the family members of Kripashankar Mitlaal Shahu (36) were sleeping at their house near Shitala Mata temple, Hudkeshwar Khurd. Families of Kripashankar and his three brothers live in the grand house constructed on a 4,000 sq ft plot. The family is involved in the business of grocery.
