RISING consumption of drugs by youth of Nagpur has sounded alarm bells in the police department. Alarmed by the menace threatening to ruin young lives, Nagpur Police have planned a severe crackdown on illicit trade and consumption of drugs. After raiding 86 premises across the city and seizing drugs worth Rs 20 lakh in a single day, cops are now preparing the list of clientele of the drug traffickers. “Once the list is prepared, these ‘customers’ will face action under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,” informed Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar, on Tuesday, while talking to media. It may be mentioned that the police, on Monday, carried out a massive drive against drug peddlers by raiding 86 premises across the city in which a total of 130 gm Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 13 lakh, 133 gm of Charas worth Rs. 7.8 lakh and 2.5 kg Ganja worth Rs. 37,500/- were seized. Tehsil police arrested two persons for stealing the belongings of persons who had died from the novel coronavirus at the Covid-19 facility at Mayo hospital. The accused are employees of Speak and Span company. The police have recovered stolen valuables including gold ornaments and mobile phones from their possession. The accused have been identified as Ganesh Uttam Dekate (24), a resident of Plot No. 40, Wanjra Layout, Parvati Nagar, Kalamna an Chhatrapal Kishore Sonkusre (25), a resident of Old Mangalwari, Lakadganj. The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Nagpur Rural Police arrested a man for being involved in preparing fake driving licences on Tuesday. The man was working from Mauda area of Nagpur district. The accused was identified as Nawab Jamir Baig (50), a resident of Om Sai Nagar, Mauda.According to police, Baig owns Nawab photo studio. He was running a parallel RTO office in the studio. He used to issue bogus licenses from this studio. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Ola got the information about him. SP Ola instructed the LCB to raid the studio. A 24-year-old youth was arrested by Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Nagpur police who was hiding Mephedrone (MD) and Hashish drugs in his prosthetic leg. The police have seized 131 gm of MD worth Rs 13.10 lakh and 130 gm of Hashish worth Rs 39,000/-.   The accused was identified as Salman Khan Nadir Khan (24), a  resident of Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh. A police official said that Khan was smuggling drugs from Mumbai for two drug-peddlers in Nagpur. Salman is disabled and has a prosthetic leg. Therefore, no one get suspicious of him. A picnic turned into a tragedy as a man and his 12-year-old son drowned in Zilpi Lake in the Hingna area on Monday morning. The family of four - husband, wife and their two sons - had gone to the lake to celebrate the birthday of their younger son, police officials said. The deceased are identified as Abdul Asif Abdul Gani Sheikh (35) and his son Abdul Chahbil Abdul Asif (12). According to police, the family is residents of Tipu Sultan Chowk in Yashodhara Nagar area. They had gone to the lake on a motorcycle at around 11 am. Before celebrating the birthday, Abdul and his son Chahbil ventured into the waters for swimming while Abdul’s wife Asma (30) and their younger son were waiting on the banks of the lake. A stepfather, who served four years in jail after being convicted of molestation, was killed by a teenage girl at her house in the Hingna police station area on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Dhnyaneshwar Gatkar (60), a resident of Seloo town in Wardha district. According to police, the 17-year-old girl lives with her mother at Sawali village, near Hingna. Her father passed away when she was just one-year-old. Since then, her mother has been working as a housemaid. The girl is studying in Standard XI. Gatkar was in a relationship with her mother and used to stay at their house in Sawali. He was booked under molestation charges after the girl had lodged a complaint against him in 2015. He was convicted for the same and released from the jail in February. In April, he visited the girl’s place and created a scene over some issues. A Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and his writer, attached to Kuhi police station, were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000/- on Monday. The arrested accused include PSI Bharat Ramesh Thite (30) and Constable Amit Shankar Pawar (28). An ACB official informed that the complainant runs a Dhaba on Umred Road and is a resident of Chitnis Nagar of Tajbag. PSI Thite was in-charge of Panchgaon beat of the police station. On May 12, Diesel was being stolen from the tipper of DP Jain Construction Company in Pachgaon area.
