The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). With arrest of prime accused and recovery of stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 21 lakh, Bajaj Nagar police on Tuesday claimed to have solved a burglary case. A police official said that house of Prof. Yogesh Shende (37), a resident of Railway Colony, Rana Pratap Nagar was burgled in August last year when Shende along with family members had gone to relative’s place. The intruders had stolen gold ornaments weighing 455 grams and Rs 35,000/- in cash, the police said. After registering an offence, the police started investigation and arrested Amol Mahadeo Raut (32), a resident of Butibori. But only cash of Rs 35,000/- was recovered from him. During interrogation, Raut told the police that his accomplices in the crime Shrikant Jeevan Nikhade (29), resident of Titur, Kuhi, had kept the jewellry with him.
