The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. An accused arrested in the murder case of his paramour attempted to committ suicide at Umred Police Station by consuming toilet cleaner. Jitesh Waman Kumbhre (24), was admitted at the hospital and his condition is reportedly normal. A police official said that Kumbhre, a resident Mangli (Arab) village in Nagbhir teshil of Chandrapur district, was arrested for killing Aishwarya Sunil Chavan, a resident of Umred. The girl had went missing on August 6, 2018. Her parents, who are daily wage workers, had lodged a missing complaint with Umred police.
