Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Gold valuer attempts to secure loan by submitting fake gold quality report

A gold valuer of Arvind Sahkari Bank and another man have been arrested by the MIDC police for mortgaging fake gold in the bank and procuring loan. The accused have been identified as gold valuer Pravin Suresh Rotkar (39), a resident of Plot No. 18, Trimurti Nagar and Naresh Pundalik Umale (44), a residnet of Trimurti Nagar, near NIT garden.  Police Sub-Inspector Pravin Kale informed that Rotkar is among the three bank-approved gold valuers, who carries out all the necessary quality checks before granting the loans.  Rotkar was on contract with the bank since last three years and he was getting a share after submitting a report about quality of gold. He owns a Jewerly shop in city. On Wednesday, Rotkar along with Umale arrived in the bank with gold ornametns and applied for loan worth Rs three lakh. Suspecting fidelity, man attempt to murder wife

Suspecting fidelity, a man attempt to murder wife by strangling her at their house in Pipala village in Hudkeshwar Police Station area on Monday.  The accused has been identified as Prashant Shriram Waghe, a resident of Pipala village and a Star Bus driver.  According to police, Prashant was suspecting fidelity of his wife Rupali and the couple used to pick up quarrel over petty issues. On Monday, Rupali attended a Haldi prgoramme despite Prashant’s consent. When Rupali arrived home, Prashant picked a quarrel with her and strangled her. However, Rupali managed to escape from his clutches. Hudkeshwar police have registered the case under Sections 307 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. 

Attempt to murder in Kamptee town

Sensation prevailed in Kamptee town after three youngsters armed with sharp-edged weapons and rod entered in the house of a 22-year-old youth and attempt to murder him in New Khalashi Line area of Old Kamptee Police Station on Monday afternoon.  The accused have been identified as Vishal Durwas Khobragade (21), Hirinash alias Chhotu Kishor Tirpude (22) and Ashwin Balwant Bahadure (23), all are residents of New Khalashi Line, Kamptee.  According to police, the incident occurred at 3.30 pm when Harshal Yashvant Borkar (22) was in the house. The accused entered the house and caught hold Harshal who was sitting on the chair and stabbed him with sharp-edged weapon. The accused also hits a iron rod on his head and fled the spot. Trickesters dupe youth of Rs 30,000 at SBI Mahal

Two tricksters duped a youth to the tune of Rs 30,000 at State Bank of India’s (SBI) Mahal branch in Ganeshpeth Police Station area on Monday. “The accused lured the victim of giving share in loot money and took him outside the bank,” said police.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Amit Atram informed that complainant Rupesh Rameshrao Nimbole (34), a resident of Kotwali area had gone to SBI’s Mahal branch to deposit Rs 30,000 cash in his bank account. Two persons reportedly approached Rupesh and befriended with him. The men later told Rupesh that they have stolen Rs two lakh cash from Mumbai and wants to offer a share to him.  Rupesh fall pray to the ‘offer’ and accompanied the accused outside the bank. The tricksters had given a packet stating the packet containing Rs two lakh and took Rs 30,000 from Rupesh. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan scam : 23 arrested at Nagpur

Representational picture Jaripatka police have booked 23 persons for misappropriation of funds received under Swachha Bharat Abhiyan for construction of toilets. “The accused received Rs 8,000 each for construction of toilet under the scheme. Despite of constructing toilets, the accused have used to money for other purpose,” the police said.  The accused have been identified as Anand Uddhav Thakre, Kashiram Bawne, Dipak Rangari, Shardaprasad Dhurwe, Ram Yadav, Mahesh Bodole, Mohan Dudhane, Sunanda Sangole, Ashok Yadav, Rekha Gajbhiye, Nirmala Borkar, Ranjit Uikey, Reeta Borkar, Dharmendra Shivbanshi, Dinesh Darwade, Radhesham Kanojiya, Raju Raut, Vikram Yadav, Sadashiv Meshram, Amit Mishra, Gaurishankar Rahangdale, Indira Kumbhm and Gajendra Rahangdale. Alert citizens caught thief red-handed

Alert citizens caught a thief red-handed when the thief was stealing a purse from an open house in Satranjipura area of Lakadganj Police Station.  The accused has been identified as Laik Khan Mukum Khan (35), a resident of Satranjipura.  The accused sneaked in the house of Prashant Dhnyaneshwar Hajare (42) when only his mother was present in the house. But the mother noticed Khan when he was stealing purse which was kept on the bed and she alerted neighbours. Three to four men came to the house and caught hold the thief. Later, the men informed the police about theft attempt. Lakadganj police have registered the case under Section 380 of Indian Penal Code.  In an another crime, gold ornaments worth Rs 1.56 lakh were stolen from a house in Kalamna area on Saturday.  According to police, the theft took place between 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm. Five-year-old girl died of electrocution

A defective water cooler claimed life of a five-year-old girl at Bhandewadi area of Kalamna Police Station on Saturday. Mother of the girl had gone to job and she along with a brother and sister were in the house, said the police.  Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) N T Gosawi said that the girl -- Khushi Manoj Kose (5) -- came in contact with the defective water cooler when she opened door of refrigerator for water bottle. She suffered electric shock and collapsed. Her brother and sister informed neighbors about the incident. The neighbors rushed her to hospital and doctors declared her dead. PSI Gosawi informed that the mother had gone to office when the incident occurred. The family was living in rented house. Kalamna police have registered a case of accidental death and started investigation.
