Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Air Fest held at Headquarters of Maintenance Command at Nagpur

A thrilling display of coordination between the magnificent air warriors and their flying machines was held at at the ‘Air Fest 2022' at its Headquarters Maintenance Command of Indian Air Force in Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur on Saturday. Police seizes 1,555 kg of Ganja, arrest two

Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Nagpur Police seized a whopping 1,555 kg of Ganja (Marijuana) hiding under fertilizer bags in a truck and arrested two persons in this connection. The seizure was made from a truck by the police while acting on a tip-off, police said. The driver and the cleaner of the truck were taken into custody, and a case was registered.  The accused have been identified as driver Someshwarrao alias Bujji Kotipillam (50), a resident of Rahulpallam, tehsil - Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh and cleaner Balemananaji alias Nani Paidaykapu Balema (25), a resident of Vaigamyapuram, District - Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.  On Monday night, the police got information that a truck bearing the number (AP-16/AT-7349) had left Orissa with ganja. No coercive steps for feeding stray dogs : Supreme Court

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered that no coercive steps shall be taken as pursuance of the recent order of the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court (HC) which prohibited the feeding of stray dogs at public places in Nagpur. It also stayed HC’s observation that persons who feed stray dogs must adopt them.  The NMC has been directed to ensure and take steps for the general public to feed stray dogs at designated locations. Although it has been directed by the Supreme Court that no coercive action as per the HC order which stipulates imposition of fine is to be taken by the NMC. The NMC has been directed to designate special spots to enable the general public to feed the stray dogs. Furthermore, the Court has also issued the direction to the effect that firstly, the general public is to ensure that no nuisance is caused due to public feeding of stray dogs and, secondly, NMC is to deal with the issues of any nuisance of dogs as per laws. Panchayt Samiti clerk booked for pension scam of Rs 1.86 crore

A clerk of Panchayat Samiti Parseoni in Nagpur district, around 40 km from here, was booked by the police for the bogus pension scam of Rs 1.86 crore. The accused woman allegedly created bogus accounts in the name of retired government servants and pocketed theri pension.  The accused was identified as Sarita Chandrashekhar Neware. She is working as junior assistant clerk with Panchayat Samiti Parseoni. The complaint was lodged by Subhash Parasram Jadhav, Block Development Officer, Panchayat Samiti, Parseoni. According to police, Sarita created 17 bogus accounts of retired employees and used bank accounts of other persons to receive the amount. As a result, the bank accounts started receiving pension for these bogus retired employees from the State exchequer. The fraud came to fore in November first week. The case was registered by the police under the provisions of Indian Penal Code. 

4 sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 12 years in fake currency case

Fake currency case Nagpur The Special Court of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) convicted and sentenced four persons to 12 years’ rigours imprisonment in a fake currency case. Counterfeit currency notes totalling around Rs 9.10 lakh was seized from the convicts by ATS Nagpur in 2015 from Shalimar Express at Nagpur Railway Station.  P Y Ladekar, Additional Sessions Judge - 4 and Judge Special Court (ATS), Nagpur held the act of circulating counterfeit currency as the act of terror under the provisions of The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.  The convicts are identified as Sheikh Gaffar Sheikh Mussa, Sheikh Sattar Sheikh Mussa and Mohd Obedulla Sakir Ali, all residents of Ballarshah, Chandrapur; Mir Anwarul Mir Hossain, a resident of Malda, West Bengal.  It was the prosecution’s case that the ATS Nagpur received information that Mir Anwarul who deals in fake currency would come to Nagpur by 18030 - Shalimar Mumbai Ltt Express on October 4, 2015. HC grants parole to gangster Arun Gawli without police escort

Gangster Arun Gawli The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court on Monday allowed parole to notorious gangster Arun Gawli without police escort to attend the marriage of his younger son Yogesh. The Division bench of Justice Vinay Joshi and Justice Vrushali Joshi partly allowed the writ petition filed by Gawli after hearing Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prison and Superintendent of Central Jail Nagpur. Gawali requested DIG Prisons for grant of emergency parole. The plea was opposed by Mumbai police stating that he was a gangster and possibility of law and order situation being created cannot be ruled out. The application was ultimately allowed by DIG prison and granted parole of four days that too in police escort on submission of cash security of Rs five lakh and surety bond of relative of Rs five lakh. Gawli was also directed to pay the to and fro charges for travelling expenses including the expenses of police officers accompanying him. It was contended that Gawli had been released on par
