Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Three years on, since the spectacles went missing, it has remained a wild-goose chase for the CID with no breakthrough in sight. The Mahatma’s glasses went missing from the Sevagram Ashram in November 2010 and the theft came to light on June 14, 2011. The probe was handed over to the State CID. A senior traffic police officer informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the car (MH-31/CA-3726) was taken on rent by District administration on Thursday for a Member of Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). The driver Milind Kamble (30), a resident of Paradsinga, dropped the officer at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in the evening. However the driver did not remove the red beacon and continue to drive the car in the city.
