Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Under sharp criticism following a brutal gangrape of a photo-journalist in Mumbai, the Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal on Thursday claimed that Maharashtra is safest place for women. Safety of women is our top priority, he claimed while appealing people not to judge efficiency of force on the basis of only one incident. “Every offence against women are freely registered in the state and such dastardly crime against women will not be tolerated,” he said.

Addressing a press conference at Police Gymkhana, the DGP said that Mumbai police have arrested accused in Mumbai gang-rape case. “Cops are on toes about every matter related to sexual assault against women after Delhi gang-rape case.” He refused to share further details about Mumbai gang-rape case. He appealed society to pay respect towards women and adhere to value system wherein every women is respected. “Our education system should create gender-sensitisation and dissuade people from showing any disrespect for women,” he said.

Talking about murder of anti-superstition crusader Dr Narendra Dabholkar, the top cop said that cops are investigating the case and he will review the progress on Saturday during his Pune visit. Dabholkar had refused security cover, he informed while paying tributes to rationalist thinker.

Talking about installation of CCTV in Mumbai and Pune cities, DGP Dayal said “a committee headed by Chief Secretary has been constituted in this regard and Chief minister Prithiviraj Chavan has cleared the decision to purchase CCTV from Government company.”

When asked about failure of local intelligence in Dabholkar murder case, he replied that government is trying to include intelligence system in standard operating system (SOP).

Answering a question about mobile phones found with prisoners in Central Jail Nagpur, the DGP said that prison is independent department of state and he is not the right authority to comment. Commissioner of Police K K Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Saxena, Special Inspector General of Police Rajender Kumar were present at the press conference.

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
