Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. MI-17 helicopters to fly from Gadchiroli as State earmarks 42-acre land for helipad

Anti-naxal operations gets boost as police force gets land in Gadchiroli MIDC By Dheeraj Fartode In a major boost to anti-naxal operation in dense forest areas of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has sanctioned a land admeasuring 42 acres to develop helipad in Gadchiroli. The new helipad is being erected for use by MI-17 helicopters which are being deployed against the red outlaws by the Government. At present there are two other helipad but they are being utlised for operations of smaller helicopters. Tumane springs surprise in Ramtek

Shiv Sena candidate defeats Congress stalwart Mukul Wasnik by 1.75 lakh margin  By Dheeraj Fartode Springing surprise, low profile Shiv Sena candidate for Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency Kripal Tumane on Friday defeated Congress stalwart Mukul Wasnik with a huge margin of 1,75,791 votes. Tumane bagged 5,19,892 votes while Wasnik, a former Union Minister and AICC General Secretary could secure only 3,44,101 votes.  Tumane had narrowly lost 2009 elections to Wasnik and victory margin was merely 16,701 votes. Last time Wasnik had bagged 3.11 lakh votes while Tumane had to content with 2.94 lakh votes. But on Friday, Tumane snatched this constituency back from Congress by defeating a giant. The paramilitary force is reeling with vacancies with nearly 50% seats of constabulary lying vacant in Nagpur Division. Inspite of shortage the Central Railway and South East Central Railway directed its division to spare manpower for election duty. Two companies of SECR and 20 constables of CR are current on election duties. According to information, sanctioned strength of RPF CR at Nagpur Division is 576 including 380 constabulary force. 160 seats of constabulary force are lying vacant as Central Railway Headquarters have not bothered to fill-up vacancies since last four years. Central Railway’s Nagpur Division nets fine of Rs 1.43 crore from violators

By Dheeraj Fartode Nagpur Division of Central Railway have booked 45,630 persons for violation of various rules at railway stations and in trains and recovered fine worth Rs 1.43 crore during the year 2013-14.  Maximum number of violations is under without ticket category and travellers carrying unbooked luggage. Division officials booked 37,910 in this regard and recovered fine of Rs 87.94 lakh. The fine realised under this head during year 2011-12 was Rs 25,686 and Rs. 21,382 in 2010-11.  In cases under section 147 of IR act has also increased in 2013 and rose to 5123 as against 5077 in 2012 and 3734 in 2011. CR have recovered Rs 12.97 lakh during year 2013, and Rs 10.85 lakh in year 2012. The collection of fine was merely Rs 4.29 lakh in 2011.
