A Village Burnt Overnight: Tears, Loss and Survival in Dhamangaon Blaze

  Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Man killed over borrowed money


A 30-year-old man was killed by two persons over an issue of borrowed money in the Narkhed police station area.
The Local Crime Branch (LCB) have arrested Anwar Sheikh Sheikh Gaffur (20) and Rajesh Suresh Dhurwe (21), both residents of Warud town of Amravati district for the murder of Shahzad Layik Sheikh (30), a resident of Narkhed.
According to police, accused Anwar runs a chicken shop while Shahzad is a construction worker. Anwar had borrowed Rs 3,000/- from Shahzad. As Anwar was not returning money, Shahzad abused him during a quarrel that broke out near Mowad village late Monday night. During the quarrel, Anawar and Rajesh killed Shahzad by smashing his head with a boulder.
The body was found on Tuesday morning. After identifying the deceased, the LCB team arrested the accused within six hours and booked them under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code.
