It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. In a road-rage incident, a rash car driver assaulted a man for objecting rash driving at RPTS road in Bajaj Nagar Police Station area.
Sunil Harishchanda Ingole (50), a resident of Plot No. 382, near FCI Godown, was passing through RPTS Road on his motorcycle on Friday at 10 am, said a police official. A speeding Swift car (MH-31/CR-5962) came behind and dangerously came close to him. The car driver stopped after asked by the driver, he said. Ingole had word with him and asked to drive the vehicle safely. This comment irked the driver and he took out a hockey stick from the car and assaulted Ingole, the official said. Ingole collapsed on the road and suffered grievous injuries on leg and palm. Passersby rushed him to hospital where his condition is reportedly normal.
On the basis of complaint given by Ingole, Bajaj Nagar police have registered the case under Section 326 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
