It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was collapsed and died on-duty during bandobast of the India vs Bangladesh 3rd T20 cricket match at Vidarbha Cricket Association’s (VCA) Jamtha Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The incident raised the issue of deteriorating health of policemen in City Police.
The deceased policeman was identified as ASI Sheikh Madar Sheikh Hussain Qureshi (54), (Buckle No. 2378), a resident of Mominpura, near Police Chowkie. A police officer said that ASI Sheikh died of cardiac arrest on-duty during bandobast for the cricket match. ASI Sheikh was attached to police headquarters. The incident occurred at 12.15 pm when ASI Sheikh was sitting on the chair in the Police Pandal outside the stadium. He suddenly collapsed from the chair and fell unconscious, the officer said. He was rushed to the hospital in Ambulance where he doctors gave continuos cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), an emergency life saving procedure for people suffering from conditions like cardiac arrest, to him. However, the doctors failed to revive him. Hingna police have registered a case of accidental death.
