Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. An old-aged man was killed after crashing into a car door which opened without warning on Law college square road in Ambazari police station area.
The accident occurred on Saturday at 11 am between Coffee House square and Law college square. Vasantrao Mahadeo Choudhary (65), a resident of Old Futala, Amravati Road, was unconscious when he was taken to the Hospital. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The car was in stationery position on Low college road and, for reasons unknown, a passenger sitting in the back seat of the car allegedly opened the door. Choudhary who was riding on a Scooty moped (MH-31/BX-8176) crashed into the car. Choudhary fell on the road and suffered grievous head injury. He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. Ambazari police have registered the case under Sections 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code. The police are searching for the vehicle.
