It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. A couple was seriously injured and their five-year-old son killed in road accident in Bhivapur Police Station area on Saturday. According to police, Anil Padole, a resident of Dhaparla Virkhande, his wife Sangita and son Anuj (5), were traveling on a motorcycle at 10.30 am. A car (MH-31/AH-1355) came from opposite direction in great speed and rammed into the motorcycle. Anil, Sangita and Anuj were dragged along the road with the car and sustained grievous injuries. The five-year-old Anuj succumbed to the injuries. Anil and Sangita were admitted at hospital. Bhivapur police have booked car driver -- Raman Shankar Naktode (41), a resident of Shriram Nagar.
An offence under Sections 279, 337, 338, 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code read with sub-section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against Raman. Further investigation is on.
Security guard robbed of mobile phone
Robber relieved a security guard of motorcycle and mobile phone collectively worth Rs 22,000 at Nanda village under the jurisdiction of Khaparkheda Police Station on Saturday. The guard was deployed at MSEB office. According to police, the robber came to the office and threatened guard Shankar Natthuji Korde (47), a resident of Rohna village, with a sharp-edged weapon. Fearing for life, Korde surrendered keys of motorcycle and mobile. The robber fled the spot with the bike and mobile phone. The Khaparkheda police have registered the case under Sections 392, 506 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
Woman robbed in bus
Katol police have arrested a lady thief for stealing cash from a purse of lady passenger in MSRTC bus on Saturday afternoon. According to police, passengers noticed the theft when the accused lady stole Rs 700 from a purse of woman passenger. Passengers of the bus caught hold of the accused and handed over to police. Katol police booked the woman under Sections 379 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is on.
