- City police to have new zone for upcoming police stations
By Dheeraj Fartode
A massive exercise to reorganise jurisdiction of Nagpur Police Commissionerate, including constitution of a new zone after addition of three police stations from Nagpur Rural Police, has been undertaken by the city police. Commissioner of Police (CP) Sharda Prasad Yadav has directed officers to study the crime scenario and suggest modalities for demarcation of zones so that an effective policing can be carried out in the Commissionerate. After studying the pros and cons final proposal will be put-up before Director General of Police (DGP) for approval from State Government, it is learnt.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Detection) Ranjan Kumar Sharma told The Hitavada on Tuesday that the zones would reorganised after observing type of crime and population ratio. The three police stations -- Kamptee, Old Kamptee and Hingna, hitherto under Nagpur Rural Police, are now merged in the Nagpur Police Commissionerate increasing the jurisdiction manifold. Further there is a proposal to establish new police stations at Besa-Beltarodi and Bajaj Nagar which will take strength of police stations in Commissionerate to 30.
Currently, city police have four zones headed by an officer of rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and most likely one more zone might be established. Sources further informed that Kamptee and Old Kamptee Police Stations would be a major challenges for the city police as Kamptee town is communally sensitive and is always on boil. Kamptee Police Station covers 90,000 population and Old Kamptee command over 1 lakh population.
A senior police officer informed that bandobast during festival season would form a major cause of concern as far as Kamptee is concerned. He remembered that all 21 Police Inspectors of Rural Police were called at Kamptee during Ganesh idol immersion. Such high level bandobast has been organised to ensure that no untoward incident occurs in the town. The Kamptee Police Station had recorded 162 IPC crime in year 2015 and 160 in Old Kamptee.
Hingna police station controls over 1.84 lakh population including 115 villages. Hingna Police Station is known as peaceful but illegal activities in the farm houses would be major concern for city police brass. The Police Station had recorded 168 IPC crime last year.
An addition of 238 hands has been added to Commissionerate post merger of the three police stations. Sources informed that a tough’ IPS officer would be chosen from the current lot of DCPs to police the Kamptee town. With this growth Nagpur Police Commissionerate badly needs creation of additional posts as establishment work will increase tremendously and also for effective maintenance of law and order.
