Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. State to appoint law officers to secure conviction rate

WITH an aim to secure conviction rate, the Maharashtra Police have decided to recruits law officers in all units across the state. The law officers would be appointed on contract basis after written examination and interviews. Process has already started at Nagpur Police Commissionerate to appoint eight law officers for city police.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Joint CP) Rajvardhan informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the process began following a circular issued by office of Director General of Police last week.
“An advertisement would be published soon regarding appointments. A written examination will be held in the city and then candidates will be shortlisted for interviews,” he said.

Rajvardhan further said that law officers would play key role in legal process, right from filing of First Investigation Report (FIR) to chargesheet in the court.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Detection) Ranjan Kumar Sharma said securing conviction of the accused in the court is the ultimate aim of police and law officers would help to achieve it. “Eight law officers would be appointed in the city. One officer would be appointed as senior law officer and would get salary of Rs 25,000/- month. Four officers will get salary worth Rs 20,000/- month and three officers will get Rs 15,000/- month,” said DCP Sharma.

‘The Hitavada’ accessed the copy of the circular which stated that age of the officer must not be over 62 years. The officer will have to handle departmental inquires, administrative matters and also give legal opinion about present status of law.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP HQ) Deepali Masirkar said that the law officer would also remain in constant touch with government pleader for fast trials of criminal cases.
“They will also have responsibility to study the acquit cases and file the case again in the court to secure conviction. Most important is that the law officer will also help at police station level to file first investigation report,” DCP Masirkar added.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers.
