Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Death on tracks: Maharastra tops in railway accidents and deaths on railway tracks


The state have also reported highest fatalities in railway accidents, 20.1% (5,024 out of 25,006 deaths)

WITH 7,969 railway accidents and 5,024 deaths on railway tracks in the year 2014, Maharashtra has accounted for maximum railway accidents and deaths occurred in the country. A total of 28,360 railway accidents caused death of 25,006 persons across India.
In Maharashtra alone, 3,208 out of 3,882 persons were injured in railways accidents.
According to report of National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) on railway accidents, a total of 28,360 cases of railway accidents were reported across the India, showing a decrease of 9.2% during the year 2014 over 2013 (31,236 cases). 28,360 railways accidents rendered 3,882 persons injured and 25,006 dead during 2014.
The month-wise distribution of railway accidents’ shows that most of railway accidents were reported in the month of June, contributing 9.4% of total accidents. Maharashtra (741 out of 2,653 cases) has reported maximum railways accidents in the month of June, accounting for 27.9% of total such accidents reported, said the report.
The analyses of classification of railway accidents revealed that majority of railway accidents -- 61.6% -- were due to fall from trains or collision with people on track (17,480 out of 28,360).
The report further said that Maharashtra has reported the maximum such cases, accounting for 42.5% of total cases of fall from train or collision of trains with people at track. A total of 14,391 persons died due to either fall from trains or collision of trains with people at tracks, accounting for 57.6% of total deaths in railway accidents (25,006 deaths).
During 2014, a total of 469 cases of railways accidents occurred due to mechanical defects (like poor design, track faults, bridge/tunnel).
In Andhra Pradesh, a total of 385 persons died in railways accidents due to mechanical defects (like poor design, track faults, bridge/tunnel). Sabotage by extremist/terrorist/others led to loss of 18 lives in railways accidents during 2014. 16 lives were lost in railways accidents due to fault of drivers.
Maximum railway crossing accidents were reported in Telangana accounting for 41.7% followed by Bihar (18.9%) and Uttar Pradesh (14.1%).
Chief Public Relations Officer of (CPRO) of Central Railway, Narendra Patil informed ‘The Hitavada’ that maximum cases of railway accidents were reported in Mumbai suburban area as millions of people travel daily by railways. People in age group between 25-40 have maximum share in railway fatalities, he said.

Highest accidents at unmanned level crossings 

Highest numbers of fatalities over Indian Railway occur due to accidents at unmanned level crossings. They take place mainly due to the negligence of road vehicle users in not observing the precautions laid down in the Motor Vehicles Act while negotiating unmanned level crossings. According to information, 17,480 railway accidents occurred due to Fall from
train or collision with people at tracks. Only 56 accidents of collision, 43 accidents of derailment, 23 accidents of fire were reported. 10,755 accidents were reported in others category.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
