Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Maharashtra Government readies land units for 170 surrendered naxals at Gadchiroli

  • Campaign Navjeevan launched by Police Department saw top naxal cadre give-up arms
  • State promises full resettlement and rehabilitation programme so that naxals can start a new chapter of their life

In a major boost to rehabilitation of surrendered Naxals in Gadchiroli area, Government has given its nod to allot land units for surrendered Naxals. Administration of Gadchiroli district has also identified plots for 170 surrendered naxals who have been identified as beneficiaries.
Assistant Collector of Gadchiroli R Shiv Shankar (IAS probationer) confirmed the development while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ saying it would take around two months for completion of all formalities for allotment  of the plots. 
The officer further informed that a huge Government land has been identified on Gadchiroli-Chandrapur State highway behind Navegaon village. Land levelling work has started and it will be completed very soon.

There are 176 plots admeasuring 30x46 sq feets each. About 40% land of total area will remain as open space at the site, he said. “The surrendered naxals would get benefit under Indira Awas Yojana run by State Government.” This means, a substantial cost of construction will be borne by the government. 
Special Inspector General (Spl IGP) Ravindra Kadam said that the police are ready with list of 170 surrendered naxals. They have laid down arms during past 10-years and they would be entitled for benefits of the scheme.
It can be mentioned that ten Naxals, including a deputy platoon commander and four couples gave-up arms before Gadchiroli police on December 19, 2013. The naxals are aged between 19 and 32 years and they had spent between two to eight years in the movement as dalam members.
Gadchiroli police under initiative named as ‘Campaign Navjeevan’ ensured surrender of 28 Naxalites belonging to different Naxal Dalams in Gadchiroli and border areas of Chhattisgarh on June 12.
Senior police officials of Maharashtra police visited the families of Naxal cadres in the State and appealed them to surrender assuring them of fair treatment and total help in their resettlement and rehabilitation to lead new life. 
During the Campaign Navjeevan, the officials paid visit to the families of senior Naxal leader including that of Korchi Area Secretary of CPI (Maoist) Gopi alias NIringsay Madavi and Pahad Singh, the Divisional Committee Member of South Gadchiroli Division of CPI (Maoist).

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State.
