Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. ZP in its report had estimated Rs 900 crore was need to restore damaged road network

Maharashtra Government has belied expectations of people as it has sanctioned a petty amount of Rs. 32.44 crore for repair of infrastructure damaged in Nagpur District due to heavy rainfall. The estimated losses was pegged at Rs. 900 crores in the survey and administration is wondering how to spread the amount and what to repair? Vice-president of Nagpur Zilla Parishad, Chandrashekhar Chikhale informed reporters about the development just after Standing Committee meeting held on Monday.
ZP in its report had estimated Rs 900 crore was need to restore damaged road network. Chikhale further said that Rs 29.34 crore and Rs 3.08 crore was approved for repairing work of roads and bridges respectively. ZP is to receive the amount shortly and work order would be issued soon after. The Standing Committee also approved expenditure of Rs 3.73 crore from District Planning Committee fund for repair of 10 roads of Nagpur, three of Umrer, seven of Hingna, four of Ramtek, eight of Katol, three of Kuhi, five of Mauda, four of Parsheoni, four of Narkher, five of Kamptee, three of Bhiwapur and seven of Kalmeshwar. Tender process for the work would be completed shortly.
The committee also approved tenders worth Rs 7.75 crore for construction work of other road network, works of health department, anganwadi and pilgrimage centers. Co-operative organisation of workers got tenders for 60 works in the district and tenders worth Rs 2.7 crore distributed to 60 unemployed youths of district. Committee members Shantaram Madavi, Surendra Shende, Kamlakar Meghe, Ambadas Ukey, Asha Gaikwad, Sandhya Gawande and others were present in the meeting.
