Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. What remained was a blackened debris all around - almost nothing to suggest a home once stood there. Nikesh earns his living as an agricultural labourer, like many in the village. First off block in Vidarbha to get Integrated Security System, ahead of Nagpur railway station which is not only biggest but also most busiest in the region

Gondia station of South East Central Railway (SECR) Zone will be the first one in Vidarbha to get the Integrated Security System (ISS), a highly sophisticated technology enabled security measure. While Nagpur station which is the highest revenue earner in region is still awaiting ISS though the same was sanctioned years back.Meanwhile, the ISS project at Gondia, the main station of Nagpur Division of SECR hopes to activate new set of security feature in first quarter of 2014, said Divisional Security Commandant (DSC) of SECR, Nagpur Division, D B Gaur.
Talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Gaur informed that SECR will be spending around Rs 2.5 crore for security of passengers at the railway station premises. The project feature includes new high quality close circuit cameras (CCTV) system, access control, personnel and baggage screening system, latest instruments for bomb defusing and disposal squads (BDDS).
The DSC further informed that the proposal was moved by SECR for sanction in 2008 and Railway Board nod came in 2009. Contracts for installation of cameras and other has been sanctioned. A salient feature of ISS at Gondia station will be dedicated control room at strategic location for round the clock monitoring through the CCTV based surveillance system. Trained RPF personnel will be deployed to ensure proper functioning of the ISS.
When contacted, Ibrahim Sheriff, Sr. DSC, Nagpur Division, Central Railway, said the ISS proposal for Nagpur station is well on track. We are waiting for approval from accounts department and the file is pending in Headquarters.”
