The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Sanjay Dutt’s sentence: BJP to oppose Centre’s move to reduce sentence

Vinod Tawde

By Dheeraj Fartode

Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Vinod Tawde on Thursday opposed Union Government move to reduce film actor Sanjay Dutt’s prison sentence. “War against terrorism would loose its sting if sentence of Dutt in Mumbai blasts case is reduced,” Tawde opined and said a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders will meet Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Home Minister R R Patil and warn them of the implication of such move. In fact, if State Government sails along with Union Government view on Dutt’s letter it could have serious ramification and in future may become a precedent, Tawde told reporters while addressing a press conference at BJP office here on Thursday.
DF Govt. mocking farmers: Tawde slammed Democratic Front Government for giving meager compensation to flood-hit regions of Vidarbha. “Farmers of Vidarbha, whose crops worth more than Rs 5,000 got lost in rain fury are receiving cheques worth Rs 50 to Rs 200. State Government is mocking at farmers,” Tawde claimed.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had announced a total aid package of Rs 2,000 crore for the Vidarbha region and later Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar made an intensive tour of the region and hinted about a massive special central aid. However the State Government has so far disbursed just Rs 981 crore aid while there is no news about central package, leaving the farmers to wither the crisis on their own. In fact, this has become a sort of trend in Maharashtra, where packages get announced but seldom has farmers got benefited.
On Chitale committee submission, he said the BJP stance is that apart from bureaucrats the role of political leaders who by-passed norms should also be fixed and action taken against them. He also informed that party is approaching High Court next week to direct DF Government to table the Adarsh Commission report in the legislature. As per rules, after receipt of report State Government should submit the report in both Houses of legislature within six months which ended in second week of October. But Government it seems is not keen to table the report let skeletons in its cupboard comes tumbling out.
BJP city unit chief and MLA Krishna Khopde was present at the press conference.

Opposition should combine to elect
seventh member in Rajya Sabha

Republican Party of India (A) President Ramdas Athawale is emerging as the consensus candidate in State for the Rajya Sabha election due next year.  Vinod Tawde said Shiv Sena has hinted at backing Athawale and said that  37 votes needed to elect a member for Rajya Sabha would be available if all non-Congress parties plus few independents join hands.
Working out political arithmetic for seven Rajya Sabha seats, Tawde said that one member each from BJP and Sena quota could be easily elected and then 16 votes of BJP-Sena will be surplus. Means only 17 other MLAs are needed to elect another member. “It could be possible only if MNS, Peasants Workers Party (PWP) and other join hands combine. We will chalk out plan to elect seventh Rajya Sabha member from votes of combine Opposition bloc,” he claimed.

IGP Prasanna : The man who stopped Obama’s convoy

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

Longest cable-stayed bridge to boost tourism at Ambhora

CONSTRUCTION work of 700-metre-long cable-stayed bridge, longest in the country, with a viewing gallery at the top at Ambhora in Kuhi tehsil is near completion. The bridge would be open for traffic in December this year providing a major boost to tourism at Shree Chaitanyeshwar Mahadev temple at Ambhora. It is set to open doors of development for the backward area of Kuhi and Umred tehsil. Ambhora, located 75 km from Nagpur city, is a famous religious and tourist place in Vidarbha. It is situated at the confluence of five rivers -- Wainganga, Kanhan, Aam, Kolari and Murza. Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
