DJ party raid: Courts release all youths

DJ party in Nagpur

Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) on Monday granted two days police custody to hotel owner of Lagoon Blu. At the same time, the court did not find anything incriminating against other 13 persons nabbed including 10 college students and released them on personal surety of Rs 3,000 each.

On Sunday, cops had arrested 18 girls, 27 boys and seven staff members including hotel owners during a surprise raid against an unauthorised party and seized large quantity of liquor and many youngsters in an inebriated condition. But on Monday, only 14 persons were produced.

Cops produced the students and staff of the hotel in the court on Monday evening charging them with violating Prohibition act and sought police custody. However, failure of cops to conduct medical test of college students including minor to ascertain whether they had consumed liquor and whether it was served to them in violation of Prohibition Act, turned out to be major shortcoming. Even the so called breath analyser test turned out by a damp squib, since the equipment itself failed to come out with clinching result due to technical glitch, leaving cops red-faced. Adv Sagar Ashirgade, Adv Tushar Mandlekar appeared for college students and claimed that their clients were innocent and did not violate any law.

However, the court granted PCR to hotel owner Rajendrasingh Laxmansingh Saini, as he was charged with serving liquor to minors. Under the regulation, liquor can not be served without valid permit to anyone below the age of 25 years. The Crime Branch has decided to recommend cancellation of his licence for this major lapse.

Meanwhile, a delegation of BJP led by MLA Krishna Khopde and corporator Chetana Tank condenemened the DJ party and submitted memorandum to Police Inspector of Lakadganj police station. The corporator said that such parties would disturb peace in the area and cops should take stringent action against such party organiser.

Corporator Manisha Kole, Sangita Kalamkar, Anita Wankhede, Seema Dhomne, Bhupendra Chelani, Chandan Goswami, Ashok Savarkar, Bharat Yadav, Vimal Dhawade, Leela Bhoyar, Vandana Dhoble, Sapna Agrawal and others were part of the delegation.

IGP Mallikarjuna Prasanna By Dheeraj Fartode  Published on Feb/17/2019 NOT many are aware of an episode during the then US President Barack Obama’s visit to India in 2010. The world’s most powerful man was made to wait for 11 minutes in his car while an Indian cop took on American officials for their unwarranted interference in the US President’s security. KM Mallikarjuna Prasanna, Special Inspector General of Police of Nagpur Range, still continues to work with the same pride, wearing his patriotism on the sleeve. “Had they (Americans) deployed their personnel for area security, then the message would have been Indians are unable to protect VIPs in their nation,” recounted Prasanna on the episode that is one of the highlights of his distinguished career of a skillful investigator. The story of the IPS officer of 2000 batch is worth a film. In fact, a movie (Nagarjun-starrer ‘Officer’) has already been made by Ram Gopal Verma last year. His real life script also ha

Just around a decade ago the river bank housing Ambhora used to see a flux of tourists from all over the State. However, the banks were submerged in water after the construction of Gosikhurd dam which led to rise in water levels. Since then, tourist flow at Ambhora has also declined. However, now with the construction of the new bridge tourists will get a chance see the scenic backwaters across the river bed which is
