The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Accused was caught in the evening with the help of CCTV footage

In yet another heinous crime, a youth sexually exploited a 6-year-old innocent girl by promising her an ice-cream during a marriage ceremony under the jurisdiction of Kanhan police station on Friday. Tension prevailed in the marriage hall as the incident came to fore. Kanhan Police caught the accused with the help of CCTV footage.Police said that the girl had come to a marriage hall in Kanhan, along with her parents, to participate in a marriage ceremony. The girl was playing with kids in the hall. Meanwhile, accused Rakesh alias Chakradhar Jagoji Bele (27), a resident of Tekadi village arrived in the hall and took the girl to first floor by promising her an ice-cream. The accused sexually exploited the girl and fled away.
When parents of the girl started searching for her, they noticed that the girl was crying on stairs of the first floor. The girl narrated the incident to her parents, who then informed Kanhan Police.
Staff from Kanhan Police Station led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Santosh Wankhede and Police Inspector Ashok Bagul rushed to the spot and started investigations immediately. Police collected CCTV footage and identified the accused. The cops laid trap in Tarsa and nabbed the accused. Cops booked the accused under Section 376 of IPC, and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
