28 firearms, 862 NDPS Cases, Rs 7.7 Crore; Seized: Rural Police crack down hard in 2025

With the seizure of 28 illegal fire-arms and 57 cartridges, registration of 4,712 liquor cases, and a sharp rise to 862 NDPS cases , the Nagpur Rural Police delivered one of their toughest crackdowns on crime in 2025. Along with this, preventive action was taken against 2,178 accused involved in illegal activities.  Large-scale operations against crime and unlawful businesses led to seizures worth Rs 7.7 crore by the police during the year. Preventive action against  1,496  According to official records, preventive action under Section 126 of the BNSS increased sharply from 569 cases in 2024 to 1,496 cases in 2025 which marked a 163 per cent rise. Preventive actions under Section 129 BNSS also increased from 1,644 cases to 1,965 cases. Violations of preventive bonds rose from 85 cases in 2024 to 201 cases in 2025, and fines recovered through courts jumped from Rs 11,600 to Rs 23,66,200. Youth exploits 6-year-old girl during wedding ceremony

In yet another heinous crime, a youth sexually exploited a 6-year-old innocent girl by promising her an ice-cream during a marriage ceremony under the jurisdiction of Kanhan police station on Friday. Tension prevailed in the marriage hall as the incident came to fore. Kanhan Police caught the accused with the help of CCTV footage.
Police said that the girl had come to a marriage hall in Kanhan, along with her parents, to participate in a marriage ceremony. The girl was playing with kids in the hall. Meanwhile, accused Rakesh alias Chakradhar Jagoji Bele (27), a resident of Tekadi village arrived in the hall and took the girl to first floor by promising her an ice-cream. The accused sexually exploited the girl and fled away.
When parents of the girl started searching for her, they noticed that the girl was crying on stairs of the first floor. The girl narrated the incident to her parents, who then informed Kanhan Police.
Staff from Kanhan Police Station led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Santosh Wankhede and Police Inspector Ashok Bagul rushed to the spot and started investigations immediately. Police collected CCTV footage and identified the accused. The cops laid trap in Tarsa and nabbed the accused. Cops booked the accused under Section 376 of IPC, and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
