Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Shiv Sena activist thrash rape accused in Kanhan police station

Angry Shiv Sena activists on Saturday beat up accused in 6-year-old girl rape case and blackened his face in Kanhan police station premises. The incident took place when cops were returned to police station after producing the accused in the court.
Police personnel stated that Shiv Sena activists along with Deputy District Chief (Women’s Cell) Shubhangi Ghogle were hiding near Mahatma Gandhi statue at police station, when the accused was brought to the police station in a jeep. The accused is Rakesh alias Chakradhar Jagoji Bele (27), a resident of Tekadi village.
When police vehicle arrived at the police station, the activists raised slogans against the accused and pulled him from poilce possession. The activists then beat him and blackened his face. Sudden attack of Shiv Sena activists shocked the police officers. Traffic in-charge of Kanhan police Sachin Shripad intervened and pushed the accused in police vehicle. Shripad also raised all window glassed to prevent further injury to the accused. However, the irate activists then tried to smash window glasses of the vehicle. Staff of police station also rushed to the spot and took the accused inside the police station. A large number of villagers gathered near the police station after the incident.
Quick Response Team (QRT) was deployed in Kanhan area after the incident. Police Inspector Ashok Bagul was present at the police station when the incident occurred, it was learnt.
Earlier, cops produced the accused before magisterial court, Nagpur and got police custody remand till May 8.
The accused had sexually exploited a six-year-old girl when she had come to attend a marriage ceremony in Kanhan along with her parents on Friday. The girl was playing with other kids in the hall. Meanwhile, the accused arrived in the hall and took the girl to first floor by promising her ice-cream. The accused sexually exploited the girl and fled away. The accused was caught in the evening with the help of CCTV footage.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
