Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. A majority of trains after being rescheduled are now running on their original time, on Thursday five trains remained on late chart. Train No. 22865 Lokmanya Tilak-Puri Express was worst affected as it was running two and half hours behind the schedule time. Train No. 12130 Howrah-Mumbai Azad Hind Express was late by two hours, 12723 Hyderabad-New Delhi Andhra Pradesh Express by over one hour and 12102 Howrah-Lokmanya Tilak Jnaneswari Super Deluxe Express by two hours.
The late running of trains during the winter season has now become an annual saga. Despite advances in technology, Indian Railways lags behind in conditioning itself for challenges posed by nature. What is more amazing is Railways prudence is not investing in technology upgradation while it chooses to spend crores of rupees on one or other committees whose report it simply puts in cold storage, said Basant Shukla, Secretary, Bharatiya Yatri Kendra (BYK).
One wonder what the mandarins of Rail Bhawan has in store for the poor Indian travellers, who continues to suffer for no fault of his!
